LibreOffice slams rival Euro-Office as a ‘de facto ally’ of Microsoft lock-in — as concerns over possible Russian interference rise

• Euro-Workplace defaults to Microsoft’s OOXML format, encouraging vendor lock-in
• LibreOffice calls the European sovereign providing a blatant “freeware” copy of MS Workplace
• Euro-Workplace and its origins, OnlyOffice, are largely created by Russian builders

The Doc Basis – the group behind LibreOffice – has publicly criticized Euro-Workplace over considerations that it doesn’t genuinely promote European digital sovereignty regardless of its advertising and marketing as a viable European different to the likes of Microsoft Workplace.

LibreOffice described Euro-Workplace as a “freeware clone” of its Massive Tech rival, claiming its technique is to imitate Microsoft’s interface and workflows.
