First Look at the Fortnite Unreal Engine 5 Upgrade with Lumen and Nanite Enabled at 60FPS

Fortnite Unreal Engine 5
BioShock’s Rapture City is a nice change from your typical map, but the Fortnite Unreal Engine 5 upgrades takes things to a whole new level. Players already know that the sun’s position changes as you play due to the dynamic time of today, and this is where Lumen really shines with its more accurate reflections as well as global illumination.

Console players will have to settle for Lumen only, resulting in characters that are reflected using screen-space calculations only and some light leakage. Nanite basically enables higher quality geometric detail on static meshes in Fortnite Chapter 4. When Lumen and Nanite are combined, you get to see what Unreal Engine 5 is really capable of, complete with virtual shadowmaps for unified shadow casting. Playing on a console results in smooth 60FPS gameplay, while on PC, you may see some shader compilation stutter.
