Sure, helium blimps are nothing new, but what about an airship that can travel on both land and in the skies? Meet Lazzarini Design’s futuristic Air Yacht. Simply put, it consists of two helium-powered 150-meter (492-foot) airships that are connected via four bridges to a main 80-meter (262-foot) hull. The two so-called “floating balloons” are separated into hives that store helium gas. When taking to the skies, the compressed helium is then released, thus providing propulsion for up to 48-hours at 60 knots. Read more for a video, additional pictures and information.
Aside from the compressed helium, it’s also powered by eight counter-rotating electric engines feeding off of ultra-light batteries and solar panels. This allows the Air Yacht to sail on the water at 5 knots in near silence. Think of this as a superyacht of sorts, as the main hull includes all the luxuries you’d expect from one, including a dining area, living room, a large ensuite master bedroom, rooftop swimming pool and even a helipad. Have guests? The two airships feature five ensuite bedrooms, complete with breathtaking panoramic windows.
