Dad Recreates Disneyland’s Star Tours Attraction at Home for His Children – TechEBlog

Homemade Star Tours Ride Attraction Disneyland
Filmmaker Mark Eaton wanted to make his daughter’s birthday a bit more special, and what better way than by recreating two of her favorite attractions at Disneyland? After lots of work, he managed to recreate Star Tours and the Mad Tea Party attractions at home. The former is essentially a motion simulator that was built inside the garage area, complete with a StarSpeeder 1000 and Captain Rex. Read more for a video and additional information.

How much did Star Tours cost Eaton to build? Around $300 since the StarSpeeder 1000 basically consists of two-by-fours with the sides covered in cardboard and then painted to resemble its real-life counterpart. A flat screen TV was then installed inside as the cockpit window and the motion itself is actually Eaton moving the StarSpeeder 1000 manually up, down, as well as side-to-side.

I was thinking, ‘OK, we should do something more and rides would blow their minds,’…It just seemed like a cool challenge to try to make these things that most people would never expect to see at a birthday party. Both the teacup and Star Tours move around as much as possible, but they stay in the same place,” said Eaton.
