Sony Project Leonardo PlayStation 5 Controller Kit
Sony debuted Project Leonardo for the PlayStation 5 at CES 2023 in Las Vegas today, and it’s basically a fully customizable controller kit designed to help many players with disabilities play games more easily, comfortably, as well as for longer periods. This will allow them to accurately press small clusters of buttons or triggers and position their thumbs and fingers optimally.

Project Leonardo includes multiple swappable components, such as a variety of analog stick caps / buttons in different shapes and sizes. Players can then use these components to build a host of control layouts, including changing the distance of the analog stick from the game pad. You can also program the controller’s buttons to any supported function and multiple buttons can be mapped to the same function. Pricing and availability have not yet been announced.

Because players can customize Project Leonardo according to their needs, there is no one ‘right’ form factor. We want to empower them to create their own configurations. The controller can also flexibly accept combinations of accessibility accessories to create a unique aesthetic. I am excited that the design will be completed through collaboration with players rather than presenting them with a single form factor,” said So Morimoto, Designer, Sony Interactive Entertainment.
