Hennessey Performance just set a new annual ‘Christmas Tree Run’ record in a blistering fast 1000hp Mustang GT500, also known as the VENOM 1000, with the Grinch himself behind the wheel. A hand-built supercharged 5.2L V8 with a 2.65-liter Roots-type supercharger on top makes 1000 hp and 850 lb-ft of torque, allowing the Grinch to hit a top speed of 192 mph with an illuminated Christmas tree strapped to the roof.
So it wasn’t the Grinch behind the wheel, but rather professional race car driver Spencer Geswein who achieved the top speed speed on a closed circuit in Texas. The only modification to the VENOM 1000 was removing the factory under hood ‘rain tray’ to improve airflow, all the while running on 93 octane pump gas. Last year, Hennessey completed the run in an Audi RS 6 Avant, which hit 183 mph.
Our annual ‘Christmas Tree Run’ serves two roles for our growing company. First, testing our performance at a proving grounds is a great opportunity to validate our engineering – the Venom 1000 delivers impressive numbers. Second, adding the seasonal twist allows our hard-working team to end the year with some high-speed fun before they slow down and enjoy their families for the holidays,” said John Hennessey, company Founder and CEO.
