Inventor James Bruton Builds Autonomous Camera Robot That Can Follow You Around for Dynamic Shots

James Bruton Camera Robot
You won’t need to travel to the world’s most remote camera store to find this autonomous camera robot, just inventor James Bruton’s workshop. Let’s face it, not everyone can afford the luxury of having a cameraman follow them around while vlogging, and this robot was designed specifically for shooting dynamic tracking or dolly shots.

Building an autonomous robot meant equipping it with an NVIDIA Jetson Nano AI module running computer vision software. This enabled it to keep a person centered in frame, while an LCD lets you monitor exactly what the robot sees. Foot pedals add a few manual controls as well, such as triggering camera actions. The omni-directional wheels mounted on a 3D-printed base are controlled by an Arduino Mega 2560 board.
