Physicists Simulate Traversable Wormhole Using a Quantum Computer in the Lab

Simulate Wormhole Quantum Computer
Physicists have successfully simulated a traversable wormhole using a quantum computer in the lab and transmitted a message between them. In other words, a wormhole that you could theoretically travel through appeared, but without rupturing space and time, although being able to send people or other living things will still require much more research.

Unlike a real wormhole, which would be mediated by gravity, this holographic version utilizes quantum effects as a substitute for gravity to remove relativity from the equation and simplify the system. When a message passed through this wormhole, it’s actually undergoing quantum teleportation, and this simulation basically transmitted a signal containing a quantum state, or more specifically, a qubit in a superposition of both 1 and 0.

We employed learning techniques to find and prepare a simple SYK-like quantum system that could be encoded in the current quantum architectures and that would preserve the gravitational properties. In other words, we simplified the microscopic description of the SYK quantum system and studied the resulting effective model that we found on the quantum processor,” said Maria Spiropulu, principal investigator of the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science research program Quantum Communication Channels for Fundamental Physics (QCCFP).
