Extreme E is set to launch the world’s first off-road hydrogen Championship in 2024, called Extreme H. Alejandro Agag, CEO of Extreme E, will work together with the current teams to decide in the coming months the best way to integrate the hydrogen powered cars into the racing weekend, possibly separated into two categories: full transition to hydrogen or joint racing. Cars participating in the Extreme H off-road racing series are going to use the same powertrain and chassis as their Extreme E counterparts, with the key differentiating factor being that the former boasts a hydrogen fuel cell, replacing the battery as the principal energy source. On a related note, Extreme E’s operations aims to keep its overall carbon footprint as low as possible by using a refurbished ship for transporting the Championship’s freight and logistics equipment as well as utilizing remote digital streaming.
