Huawei Technologies may not be a household name in North America, but it’s one of the most popular smartphone brands in Asian and Europe. A recently uncovered patent filed with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in July 2021 reveals a smartphone boasting a triple-camera system capable of capturing 3D facial images in order to perform an accurate facial and skin analysis. To achieve this functionality, the first and second camera sensors are located perpendicular to each other, while the third one is nestled in between the other two. The document text describes this camera system in a flip phone, but the patent sketches show it implemented in a standard smartphone design. One other possible use is by combining this with a smart mirror, enabling one to add this functionality to other smartphone models without these cameras.
