The original Sony Walkman was first released on July 1, 1979 in Japan, and some may not even known this famous line of portable cassette players. Fortunately, Sony is releasing two new models – ($4,199 USD) NW-WM1ZM2 and ($1,589 USD) NW-WM1AM2 – as part of their Walkman Signature Series. Unfortunately, both models will cost you more than a brand new Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max. One reason why the NW-WM1ZM2 is so expensive is due to the fact that it has a 99.99% purity (4N) Gold-plated Oxygen-Free Copper (OFC) chassis. Read more for two videos, including a hands-on look.
For less than half the cost, you could get an NW-WM1AM2, which boasts an aluminum alloy frame and despite the price, it’s still a highly rigid case that’s resistant to electrical noise and other interference. Both models have upgraded fine-tuned capacitors, while an OFC milled block covers the digital block, allowing the music players to bring you full immersive sound. Unlike other music players, the NW-WM1ZM2 features a KIMBER KABLE to run from the amp base to the balanced headphone jack to transmit high quality audio signals. Available in Europe and Asia this spring, with no word yet on a North American release.
