In the DC Comics universe, Superman is capable of projecting beams of heat from his eyes which are hot enough to melt steel. It was first showcased in Superman #59 (c.1949) by applying his X-ray vision at its highest intensity, but in later comic books, it was simply called “heat vision”. Hacksmith Industries has made plenty of items from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but they wanted to break away from the norm, and recreate Superman’s “heat vision” in real-life. First, they started with a pair of eye-tracking glasses, which wasn’t as simply as it may sound, since custom software was required. The solution turned out to be custom Python software that measured the position in space where the glasses are pointed and two laser cubes, enabling it to fire wherever you look, whether it be a target or other object. However, you can’t just hold these cubes in your hands, so shoulder mounts had to be fabricated.
