I’ve never been good at the whole New Years’ resolution thing. After a few weeks of working towards my resolution, I would quit it entirely. Before this year ended, I made the decision to list my 2022 goals, but kept it broad, and instead tied them to little actionable habits that I knew I could achieve much easier than putting all the pressure on reaching my goal within the next 12 months. The application Habitica has been instrumental in my journey so far.
How it works:
Habitica allows you to build out the habits you want to achieve in a fun way. Imagine working on your habits, but also turning them into a game at the same time. You can create a habits list and adjust to your own goals. When you check off habits, you can unlock achievements. You can add in any custom habits you’d like to, and does not limit how many you want to work on. With it’s easy interface, fun user experience, and simple set up, you can set better habits for yourself in the new year, while trying to get more points with your custom character. You can use those points to get your character new clothes, and even pets! Habitica allows you to set yourself up for success, no matter what your goal is.
Favorite feature:
My personal favorite feature is the capability to create my own fully-customized habits based upon my own goals. I can add tags to better manage my goals, as well as track them by level of difficulty. I can also add if it’s a good habit, or a bad one i’m trying to get rid of. It makes it easier to work these habits into my everyday life. For an example, one of my goals this month was to clean out my closet, so I created this custom habit dedicating time for it daily. By earning virtual rewards every time I complete a task, it makes working towards my goals all the more fun.
In the book Atomic Habits, author James Clear writes, “Goals are good for setting a direction, but systems are best for making progress.” By using this Habitica to achieve my goals, it not only kept me consistent, but also makes habit setting much more fun.
