As I post regularly on LinkedIn, purchasing Made in USA begins with simply reading labels. Example: I needed wrapping paper and a card for a baby gift I made for a fellow book club member.

Shopping at chain retailers, such as The Paper Store or Walmart, can be hit or miss. It’s also easy to assume that an “American” brand, such as Hallmark, makes everything here. (Hint: They don’t.)

But, if you carefully read labels, including the back of cards, you CAN find stuff made here. I found a card, ribbon, and wrapping paper. The curly ribbon was made from “imported materials.”

Regarding the gift itself: I hand-crocheted the afghan. First one in years! Fun! However, I quickly learned that finding smaller local stores that carry a good yarn selection, let alone Made in USA, is tough!!

The yarn I used is Encore by Plymouth Yarn Company, Inc.; It was made in Turkey.

I’ll be providing a full report once this blog is fully up and running.
