Joby Aviation’s All-Electric Aircraft Prototype Generated 65-Terabytes of Test Data and Flew Over 5,300-Miles – TechEBlog

Joby Aviation, a startup specializing in all-electric aircraft for commercial passenger service, recently announced that it has received FAA Special Airworthiness Certification and US Air Force Airworthiness Approval for a second pre-production prototype aircraft. Its first pre-production prototype managed to generate 65 terabytes of test data in 2021 alone, after flying for over 5,300 miles, including unofficially the longest flight of an eVTOL aircraft to date, at 154.6 miles on a single charge. Joby’s all-electric aircraft boasts a maximum range of 150-miles and a top speed of 200 mph while carrying four passengers as well as a pilot, all with zero operating emissions. The company plans to launch passenger service in 2024 as a fast, clean, and quiet alternative way for people to move within congested metropolitan areas as well as other communities.
