Man Buys Sailboat for $23K, Turns it Into a Solar-Powered Floating Home

Sailboat Solar-Powered Floating Home
If the U-Boat Worx NEMO 2 personal submarine is a little too pricey for your budget, you could always buy a sailboat for $23,000 and transform it into a solar-powered floating home. Journeyman and sailor Daniel did just that after he picked up a 1984 Beneteau Idylle sailboat. It may not be the most luxurious of living space, but this sailboat does offer him the opportunity the maximize the amount of time he can spend exploring off-grid.

Despite living mostly on water, Daniel can still use his laptop, smartphone, tablet, and more, thanks to a 1000 watt of solar panel system for electricity. Other essentials he uses daily include a fresh water maker and a wood-fired grill to cook outside. As for food, he grows and sprouts his own veggies, while protein comes from regular free-dive spearfishing sessions. We don’t know if SpaceX Starlink is available yet in this part of the world, but it would truly make his sailboat off-the-grid.

Although he does solo sail his boat, he says the live aboard lifestyle is much more fun when traveling with a buddy boat, and he also takes on crew half the time. And by keeping his expenses low, he’s able to earn a living from documenting his adventures on YouTube and Patreon with his Adventureman Dan social media project,” said Exploring Alternatives.
