Apple TV+ takes over Loganville for ‘The Big Door Prize’ filming

Apple has reportedly taken over a small town as it begins filming for the upcoming show The Big Door Prize.

Set to star Chris O’Dowd among others, the unannounced Apple TV+ show looks to have taken over Loganville, Georgia for filming according to tweets by Matthew Smith. Photos show references to Deerfield, the fictional area the show will be set in.

Here’s how Deadline describes the show and O’Dowd’s role in it:

O’Dowd’s Dusty is a good-natured teacher and family man whose deeply average life has followed a safe and predictable path, until the appearance of the mystifying machine forces him to question his own happiness.

While Smith calls the production “Deerfield” initially, they correct that to “Zoltar” in a follow-up tweet. However, as AppleInsider reports, that’s a misunderstanding surrounding the project’s name.

Smith goes on to say the set is for “Apple TV series named Zoltar and it revolves around a high school teacher in a small town.”

The confusion over the title is understandable, as there’s some crossover between the confirmed show “The Big Door Prize” and “Zoltar.” The latter refers to a famous fortune-telling vending machine from the film “Big,” which has previously been tipped to become a TV show, and does have multiple IMDB listings.

“The Big Door Prize” does have some parallels, in that it follows the residents of the small town called Deerfield who discover a magical, destiny-predicting machine in their grocery store. However, the show, which has Chris O’Dowd starring as a teacher, is based on the M.O. Walsh novel of the same name.

There’s currently no timescale for when the new show will land on Apple TV+ but it could be another one to check out once it does.
