Google\u2019s support page was recently updated with an announcement titled \u201cNew mobile camera translation experience,\u201d which briefly talks about a new translation experience that\u2019s now available in iOS and tightening the integration between Google Translate and Google Lens.<\/p>\n

According to a boog post<\/a> by Google community manager Keerthana V, the updated experience will allow iOS users to get \u201cinstant translation, captured image translation, and imported photo translation\u201d through the Google Lens app. Additionally, the post states that the translated text is interactable, including copy, search, and sending to the text Translate home.<\/p>\n

To access the new feature, download the Google Translate app for iOS<\/a>, and click on the camera icon on the app\u2019s home screen.<\/p>\n

Google says it will further build upon the feature in the coming months, including partial translations, \u201cwhich will provide the ability to switch between the source and translated text and make source text selections.\u201d<\/p>\n

While these features are available on the iOS version of the app, they\u2019re nowhere to be seen on Android. According to the Mountain View, California-based company, the features should be available for Android users \u201cin the coming months.\u201d<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not entirely sure why someone would want to use the Google Translate app on iOS when the iPhone\u2019s built-in Live Text feature works just as well. Live Text offers translations directly through the camera app, Safari, and saved photos in real-time, similar to Google Translate.<\/p>\n

Live Text translations are also interactable, offering you options like \u2018Copy,\u2019 \u2018Select All,\u2019 \u2018Look Up,\u2019 \u2018Translate\u2019 and \u2018Share.\u2019<\/p>\n
