That\u2019s why so many companies are investing in influencers to personalize their interactions within the platform.<\/p>\n<p>But, with so many brands vying for audience attention, it can be difficult to remain competitive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow does somebody compete with somebody who does have $500 million-plus in funding?\u201d said Darryl Praill, CRO of sales engagement platform VanillaSoft, at our <a href=\"https:\/\/martechconf.com\/fall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MarTech conference<\/a>. \u201cYou cannot outspend them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cWhat we did was go all-in on two things \u2014 thought leadership content and reach.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Praill\u2019s team was about to build up the personal side of their brand using their own LinkedIn influencing strategy. This helped his company improve customer engagement on the social platform.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a great corporate page on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, etc. But we didn\u2019t have any \u2018face of the company\u2019 people. We needed a corporate evangelist to go and speak.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou need to personalize your brand and that\u2019s why you need a company influencer,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Engaging potential customers through personalized efforts can help brands stand out from companies that have them beat funding-wise. Here are three ways Praill recommends marketers take their organizations to the next level on LinkedIn.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-identify-your-brand-s-influencer\">Identify your brand\u2019s influencer<\/h2>\n<p>After much discussion, Praill was chosen as his brand\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/martech.org\/how-to-become-a-b2b-influencer-on-linkedin\/\">LinkedIn influencer<\/a>. Their team cited his unique ability to not only communicate well but provide unique opinions to set their brand apart.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had to be willing to be vulnerable,\u201d he said. \u201cI had to be transparent, to be different, to speak loud and stir the pot \u2014 to force people to think. I had to have a different take than what they were hearing out there from other influencers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cYou need to identify this person in your company; maybe it\u2019s you. It doesn\u2019t need to be an executive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yet finding a knowledgeable, charismatic influencer is only half the battle. Brands need to provide a consistent stream of thought leadership content.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t do this ad hoc; you have to book time in your calendar to do this like you would anything else,\u201d Praill said. \u201cYou need to know who\u2019s going to do it, whether they\u2019ll add value with great content, and whether they\u2019ll be consistent.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr generation of community, relationships and virtual trust,\u201d said Parill. \u201cCOVID has thrust that upon us, so you need to share lessons learned \u2026 You need to be a storyteller.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Consumers don\u2019t want to interact with brands that blare their messages as if through a megaphone. They\u2019re drawn to companies that bring them into a story \u2014 especially if that story helps them solve a problem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou need to personalize and humanize the whole story to make this happen. So you need to coach your people on how to tell stories,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Brand storytelling isn\u2019t just for show; it can have a remarkable impact on your business if done well. Research conducted by Headstream (now merged with Five by Five) found that people who love a brand story are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/Headstream\/the-power-of-brand-storytelling\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">55%<\/a> are more likely to buy the product.<\/p>\n<p>If your influencer can\u2019t tell engaging stories about your brand, they may have a difficult time delivering results.<\/p>\n<h2>Grow your influencing network<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cYou have your list of people you\u2019re trying to target, but that\u2019s just the people you know you have,\u201d Praill said. \u201cThere are thousands of people out there who could buy your products or services or influence the purchase of your products or services. But you don\u2019t have them on your list.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cIf you\u2019re not reaching out to them regularly then they won\u2019t know who you are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Consistency is key when reaching out to potential customers. Whether it\u2019s via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/help\/linkedin\/answer\/1164\/linkedin-groups-membership-overview?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LinkedIn Groups<\/a> or connection requests, your marketing influencer needs to engage with people who are connected to your industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFind out where those people hang out or who they listen to,\u201d Praill said. \u201cWhat you\u2019re going to find is a handful of people who, when they post something, share a video, or comment, make people look and listen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Praill says many of these industry influencers are public speakers, best-selling authors, professional trainers, and other high-level practitioners. They\u2019re the people who your industry will acknowledge as experts, so make sure your influencer reaches out to them.<\/p>\n<p>Marketers need to personalize these communications with <a href=\"https:\/\/martech.org\/women-make-up-majority-of-influencer-community-earn-less-than-male-influencers\/\">influencers<\/a>, treating them as if they were a customer prospect. This will help provide a strong foundation for the relationship in the long run.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you send them a connection request, you have to tell them why they should connect with you,\u201d said Praill. \u201cPersonalize the invite.
