I prefer the latter, and if you do too, I\u2019ve put together a list of the best books I\u2019ve read lately that have helped me grow professionally or personally.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Side<\/strong>: I\u2019ve listed the books using my affiliate links meaning if you choose to buy any of the recommendations, I will make a commission. It\u2019s also worth mentioning to check your local library first to see if any of these books are available. Don\u2019t forget you can sometimes buy used books on Amazon\u2014also at a discounted rate.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Reach-Out-by-Molly-Beck\"\/>Reach Out by Molly Beck<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Topic<\/strong>: Networking<\/p>\n<p>I loved Molly Beck\u2019s book <em>Reach Out<\/em>. As an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dananicoledesigns.com\/introvert-freelancer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">introvert<\/a>, I\u2019ve always struggled with networking. Not because I\u2019m shy (I\u2019m not) but because I find it incredibly draining, so I never end up networking.<\/p>\n<p>And with COVID, networking is even more challenging.<\/p>\n<p>Molly provides tips for growing your network via your email. Robert Cialdini is a psychologist turned marketer. This book was perfect for me who, at the time, felt zero confidence about my ability to run a thriving business. I was perpetually worried I\u2019d screw up and lose it all. To put it lightly, I was being unintentionally stingy with my business investments because again, I was nervous that I\u2019d make the wrong move and lose a bunch of money.<\/p>\n<p>Reading this helped give me confidence. Navarro breaks down body language so you know what people are <em>actually <\/em>thinking, regardless of what they say. <\/p>\n<p>Is this book useful for business? <\/p>\n<p>If you do in-person negotiations, absolutely. Otherwise, this book is more useful for day-to-day life. Watching someone\u2019s body language can give you clues as to what they\u2019re thinking and how they\u2019re feeling. Knowing that, you steer the conversion how you\u2019d like. This book takes a look at some very successful ads from commercials to sales letters and discusses why they work so well.<\/p>\n<p>However, keep in mind that Ogilvy published this book in the 80s. While none of the information is outdated, you don\u2019t find any advice on social media in here. I\u2019d advise reading something like <em>The Adweek Copywriting Handbook<\/em> or <em>The Ultimate Sales Letter<\/em> prior to digging into <em>Breakthrough Advertising<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Breakthrough Advertising<\/em> is akin to the textbooks you\u2019d read for school. It\u2019s dense. It\u2019s dry. And it requires plenty of brainpower to get through.<\/p>\n<p>But oh my, is it ever useful. I plan to read this book until it\u2019s ragged. It\u2019s definitely one of the best copywriting books out there.<\/p>\n<p>PS the only place to buy this book is from <a href=\"https:\/\/breakthroughadvertisingbook.com\/\">here<\/a>.
