Sometimes, adding an indent to your text<\/a> or numbers makes them look nicer. Microsoft Excel lets you add an indent to an entire cell, as well as to a specific line within a cell. Here\u2019s how.<\/p>\n

Add an Indent to a Cell in Excel<\/h2>\n

To indent an entire cell, first, open your spreadsheet with Microsoft Excel.<\/p>\n

In the spreadsheet, select the cell in which you want to add an indent.<\/p>\n

While your cell is selected, in Excel\u2019s ribbon at the top<\/a>, click the \u201cHome\u201d tab.<\/p>\n

On the \u201cHome\u201d tab, in the \u201cAlignment\u201d section, click \u201cIncrease Indent\u201d (an icon with four lines and a right-arrow).<\/p>\n

Your cell\u2019s content will move a bit to the right. Keep clicking \u201cIncrease Indent\u201d until the cell content is at the desired position.<\/p>\n

To remove an indent, click the \u201cDecrease Indent\u201d option, which is just beside the \u201cIncrease Indent\u201d option.<\/p>\n

Add an Indent to a Cell\u2019s Specific Line in Excel<\/h2>\n

If your content does not fit your cell\u2019s width, wrap the content<\/a> and then add a manual indent as explained below.<\/p>\n

First, in your cell, put the cursor right before the content that will go on to a new line. Everything to the right of the cursor will move to a new line in the same cell.<\/p>\n

On your keyboard, press Alt+Enter (Windows) or Option+Return (Mac) to add a line break.<\/p>\n

\"Add<\/p>\n

Your cell\u2019s content is now on multiple lines but still in the same cell. To add an indent to a line, put your cursor to the front of that line and then press Spacebar. Keep hitting this key until the desired result is achieved.<\/p>\n
