\u201cDon\u2019t Write Off The Super Eagles\u201d, Buhari Pleads<\/strong><\/p>\n

President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the loss by Nigeria\u2019s Super Eagles Football Team to <\/a>Tunisia on Sunday in Garoua, Cameroon, saying that although the team did not live up to our expectations in the tournament, both officials and players deserve commendation for the tough fight they put up.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey gave everyone the confidence that they were up to it, and I am sure it was something they could have achieved. Nonetheless, we should not write them off,\u201d said the President.<\/p>\n

President Buhari urged Nigerians to encourage the players to do better next time, especially in view of the World Cup qualification matches that have been lined up for them.<\/p>\n

The President directed the football authorities in the country to undertake a critical assessment on the Eagles\u2019 performance at the Cup of Nations tournament and encouraged the general public to send their suggestions to the Nigeria Football Federation so that it will reflect and plan well for a better outing in the forthcoming World Cup competition.<\/p>\n

Buhari\u2019s Full Message<\/strong><\/p>\n

Even though the Super Eagles did not live up to our expectations in the AFCON match<\/a> last night, they all, officials and players alike, deserve commendation for the tough fight they put up.<\/p>\n

Indeed they gave everyone the confidence that they were up to it, and I am sure it was something they could have achieved. Nonetheless, we should not write them off.<\/p>\n

What we should all do instead, as Nigerians, is to encourage them to bounce back and do better next time.<\/p>\n

I have directed the football authorities to undertake a critical assessment of the AFCON performance, to enable better outcomes in the future, starting with the forthcoming World Cup qualification matches.<\/p>\n

I am also using this opportunity to urge the general public to send your suggestions to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), so that they can reflect and plan well for a better outing in the World Cup.<\/p>\n
