Many people find the Brave<\/a>\u00a0browser\u2019s privacy features attractive but are turned off by its\u00a0cryptocurrency<\/a> features and promotions. If you\u2019re one of those people, here\u2019s how you can remove those elements and enjoy a cleaner, simpler browsing experience.<\/p>\n

How to Remove Cryptocurrency From Brave on Desktop<\/h2>\n

First, open your Brave browser<\/a> so we can get it cleaned up and ready to go. The options for crypto-related content are scattered throughout the browser\u2019s settings, so we\u2019ll be doing some clicking around.<\/p>\n

Note:<\/strong> If you have multiple profiles set up on Brave, be aware that changes to these settings will apply only to the current profile. You\u2019ll need to repeat them for each profile.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Opt-Out of Brave Rewards and Disable Tip Buttons<\/h3>\n

Somewhat like Microsoft Edge\u2019s Rewards<\/a> feature, Brave has an optional rewards program allowing you to earn funds by viewing ads. If you previously opted-in but are no longer interested, you can disable Brave Rewards entirely on your browser.<\/p>\n

Start by entering this shortcut into the address bar:<\/p>\n

Alternatively, click the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) in the top-right corner of Brave. Then click \u201cSettings\u201d in the drop-down menu that appears.<\/p>\n

In the left-hand menu of the Settings page, click \u201cBrave Rewards.\u201d<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll see a list of various Rewards-related settings with toggle buttons. Toggle them all off. However, if you have remaining BAT, you may want to leave the \u201cAuto-Contribute\u201d settings turned on to make sure it gets distributed.<\/p>\n

With them all turned off, you\u2019ll cease to see any ads, earn any BAT, or see any tip buttons on the websites you visit.<\/p>\n
Hide the Brave Rewards Button From the Address Bar<\/h3>\n
If you\u2019re not using the Brave Rewards feature, you can hide the icon from the address bar so that it doesn\u2019t get in your way.<\/p>\n
Remaining on the Settings page, click \u201cAppearance\u201d in the left-hand menu.<\/p>\n

Banish the Crypto Wallet From the Toolbar<\/h3>\n
If you don\u2019t want the crypto wallet<\/a> visible next to the address bar, removing it is easy.<\/p>\n
On the Settings page, click the \u201cWallet\u201d button on the left-hand menu.<\/p>\n

Block the Ads on the New Tab Page<\/h3>\n
Some of the most aggressive promotions of cryptocurrency on Brave happen on the New Tab page, with big banner ads. To get rid of them,\u00a0open a new tab and click \u201cCustomize\u201d in the bottom-right corner of Brave\u2019s new tab page.<\/p>\n

A dialog will appear with the \u201cBackground Image\u201d tab open. Toggle off the \u201cShow Sponsored Images\u201d option.<\/p>\n

Tip:<\/strong> If you don\u2019t want any photography or artwork at all on the New Tabe page, toggle off \u201cShow Background Images\u201d as well.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Click the \u201cX\u201d button in the top-right corner of the Customization dialog to save your settings.<\/p>\n
Disable the Crypto Widgets on the New Tab Page<\/h3>\n
By default, the New Tab page shows you widgets (or \u201ccards\u201d) with your Brave Rewards stats,\u00a0token<\/a> prices, and other crypto-related information. Disable them by first clicking the \u201cEdit Cards\u201d button below the card stack.<\/p>\n

Several optional cards will appear. Find the ones you don\u2019t want and click the \u201cHide\u201d button beneath them.<\/p>\n

Click the \u201cX\u201d button on the Cards dialog, and you\u2019re good to go!<\/p>\n

How to Hide Brave\u2019s Cryptocurrency Features on Mobile<\/h2>\n
Let\u2019s walk through disabling each crypto-related feature on the Brave mobile browser one-by-one.<\/p>\n
Turn Off Brave Rewards<\/h3>\n
First, let\u2019s make sure Brave Rewards is disabled so it won\u2019t show you any BAT-earning ads. Tap the three-dot icon in the bottom-right corner (or the top-right if you disabled the bottom bar).<\/p>\n

Select \u201cBrave Rewards\u201d from the menu that appears.<\/p>\n

If enabled, toggle off the \u201cAds\u201d option in the Brave Rewards settings so that you no longer see Brave ads in your notification tray.<\/p>\n

Even if you\u2019ve opted out of Brave Rewards, the icon will stay in the address bar until you hide it. Again pressing the three vertical dots, tap the \u201cSettings\u201d button.<\/p>\n

Disable the Ads on the New Tab Page<\/h3>\n
Sometimes promotions for cryptocurrency will appear on the New Tab page of Brave. You can block them entirely with the flip of a switch.<\/p>\n
Back in the main Settings menu, tap on the \u201cNew Tab Page\u201d option.<\/p>\n

Here you\u2019ll find the toggle for \u201cShow Sponsored Images.\u201d Switch it off to disable the ads.<\/p>\n

Note that Brave will continue to show you photography and artwork on the New Tab page. If you prefer a more vanilla interface, then toggle off \u201cShow Background Images\u201d as well.<\/p>\n
Hide the Binance Widget<\/h3>\n
Brave by default shows a widget on the new tab screen with a stack of \u201ccards,\u201d including one for the cryptocurrency exchange Binance<\/a>. You can hide the Binance card, or disable the widget entirely.<\/p>\n
First, open a new tab and tap the three horizontal dots on the widget.<\/p>\n

If you want to don\u2019t want the widget at all, simply select \u201cRemove Widget.\u201d But if you want to keep your Privacy Stats or Top Sites on the New Tab page, tap \u201cEdit Stack\u201d instead.<\/p>\n

If you chose to edit the stack, a \u201cWidget Stack\u201d menu will appear. Tap and hold the three horizontal lines next to \u201cBinance\u201d (or any other card you want to remove). In the lower half of the menu, an \u201cAvailable\u201d area will appear where you can drag and drop the card.<\/p>\n

Drop the Binance card in the Available area.<\/p>\n
\"The<\/p>\n
You should now find the Binance card hidden from the stack on your New Tab page.<\/p>\n
And with that, your Brave browser has been cleansed of visible crypto features and advertising.<\/p>\n
