The strategy would see the social media giant open 300 ghost kitchens and use them to deliver trending food items made famous by its content creators to paying customers. As it turns out, TikTok Kitchens was just as much of a surprise to the company\u2019s top management as it was to the public. <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techspot.com\/news\/92701-tiktok-opening-300-ghost-kitchens-deliver-food-trends.html\">project<\/a> was reportedly spearheaded by marketing chief Nick Tran. According to the New York Post, the former Hulu executive had been with TikTok for less than two years and this wasn\u2019t the first time he went \u201crogue\u201d with an idea before getting it cleared by superiors.<\/p>\n<p>Tran also reportedly spearheaded a campaign for a <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.tiktok.com\/en-us\/tiktok-launches-first-creator-led-nft-collection-powered-by-immutable-x\">creator-led NFT collection<\/a> in collaboration with celebrities like Lil Nas X and Bella Poarch. He was additionally behind the push for <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.tiktok.com\/en-us\/find-a-job-with-tiktok-resumes\">TikTok Resumes<\/a>, a service to help users find jobs.<\/p>\n<p><picture style=\"padding-bottom: calc(100% * 1080 \/ 1920)\"><source type=\"image\/webp\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/static.techspot.com\/images2\/news\/bigimage\/2022\/01\/2022-01-20-image-18-j_1100.webp 1100w, https:\/\/static.techspot.com\/images2\/news\/bigimage\/2022\/01\/2022-01-20-image-18-j.webp 1920w\" data-sizes=\"(min-width: 900px) 1100px, 100vw\"\/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"1080\" width=\"1920\" src=\"https:\/\/static.techspot.com\/images2\/news\/bigimage\/2022\/01\/2022-01-20-image-18.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"b-lazy\"\/><\/picture><\/p>\n<p>Sources familiar with the matter told The Post that TikTok Kitchens was the straw that broke the camel\u2019s back, adding that Tran was let go shortly after.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not in the restaurant business and we shouldn\u2019t pretend to be,\u201d one TikTok executive said on a call this month with around 200 people from the marketing team, a source said.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s odd here is that Tran&#8217;s ideas weren\u2019t all that terrible given today\u2019s social landscape. Furthermore, all of them were officially announced by TikTok complete with press releases. How did these supposedly rogue ideas all make it out without anyone in senior leadership positions knowing about it?
