Usually, Microsoft publicizes significant changes in Windows Insider previews<\/a>, but the company tucked a brand new task manager into Windows 11 Build 22538 in the Dev channel. However, you have to jump through some hoops to enable it.<\/p>\n

Gustave Monce<\/a> first spotted the feature on Discord and shared it on Twitter by\u00a0FireCubeStudios<\/a>. Basically, it brings the Windows 11 design<\/a> to the task manager. That means it gets\u00a0Mica effects<\/a>, the\u00a0WinUI design components,\u00a0a sidebar that replaces the tabbed interface, and even a dark mode.<\/p>\n

Important to note is that Microsoft hasn\u2019t officially enabled this. According to Monce, it\u2019s pretty broken at this time. While we don\u2019t necessarily recommend trying it, if you happen to be on the Dev channel<\/a> on Windows 11, you can take steps to enable it.<\/p>\n

First, you\u2019ll need to download and extract ViVeTool<\/a>. Next,\u00a0run Terminal as an administrator in the ViveTool directory and enter the following command:<\/p>\n

From there, restart your computer<\/a>, right-click the Start button, and select \u201cTask Manager\u201d when complete to see the secret new version.<\/p>\n

It looks like a nice change to the task manager<\/a>, but we\u2019ll have to wait until Microsoft enables it officially before getting a good feel for how nice it truly is, as it\u2019s somewhat broken in its current state.<\/p>\n
