Here are a few tips to help you address recent and upcoming changes in order to improve your ads on Facebook and Instagram in 2022.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h2>Verify Your Domain and Configure Your Conversion Events<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since the iOS 14 update in early 2021, a few things have changed on Facebook and Instagram\u2019s shared ad platform. Namely, conversion events must now be configured on the site itself using <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/business\/help\/721422165168355?id=1877298665783613\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Aggregated Events Measurement<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in order for ads to be properly delivered to iOS 14 users who have opted out of cookie tracking.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-63963 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/mailinvest.blog\/wp-content\/themes\/breek\/assets\/images\/transparent.gif\" data-lazy=\"true\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.techwyse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/image4-1.png\" alt=\"3 Tips for Running Facebook and Instagram Ads in 2022\" width=\"595\" height=\"177\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.techwyse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/image4-1.png 595w, https:\/\/www.techwyse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/image4-1-300x89.png 300w\" data-sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 595px) 100vw, 595px\"\/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/business.facebook.com\/events_manager2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Source<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAggregated Events Measurement\u201d is a bit of a mouthful, so we\u2019ll just refer to it as \u201cAEM.\u201d Basically, with AEM, Facebook configures the events on your site\u2019s backend in a way that is compliant with Apple\u2019s new privacy policies regarding data collection. This allows for ads to be delivered to those who have opted out of cookie tracking and also allows for sales that come from these users to be tracked, however, the caveat to this is that reporting may be delayed and much of the data will be anonymized to protect the user\u2019s privacy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to configure these events, however, you\u2019re probably going to be required to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/business\/help\/286768115176155?id=199156230960298\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>verify your domain<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This is essentially claiming ownership of your site and telling Facebook that you have the authority to configure and edit these events. Note: in order to verify your domain, you will need a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/business\/help\/1710077379203657?id=180505742745347\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Business Manager<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In some cases, Facebook will have configured these events for you based on past data that has been collected from your ad account. For example, if you run a Shopify store and your primary objective is sales, Facebook may have already configured the Purchase and Add to Cart events on your behalf. If you wanted to make changes to how these events are prioritized, however, you would still need to verify the domain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In closing: if conversion events are not configured via the steps above, you may not be able to deliver your ads to iPhone users who have opted out of cookie tracking.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>\n<h2>Review Changes to Targeting Policy, Plan Out New Strategies As Needed<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meta will be adding <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.searchenginejournal.com\/meta-facebook-ads-targeting\/430239\/?utm_source=daily-newsletter&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=daily-newsletter&amp;mc_cid=98157e0175&amp;mc_eid=ee4780ea62#close\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">new rules<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for how ads are targeted in 2022. Four main audience categories will be removed as of January 19th:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Health Causes (i.e. cancer awareness)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sexual orientation\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Religious beliefs, practices, and groups\/organizations<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Politics beliefs, social causes\/issues, political organizations, and political figures<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Advertisers will no longer be able to target Facebook and Instagram users based on whether or not they have expressed interest in or affiliation with any of the topics above.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While these targeting methods will no longer be available as of January 19th, existing ad sets that already have audiences in these categories can still be used until late March. In the meantime, it might not be a bad idea to plan ahead and test out new targeting strategies prior to any existing ones being disabled in March.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In some cases, when no alternative targeting methods are able to narrow down your audience to the extent that you\u2019d like, one option may be to use open targeting (no interests or behaviours included) or lookalike audiences based on existing customers, email contacts, or website visitors. From there, you can <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.techwyse.com\/blog\/ecommerce\/4-big-reasons-why-remarketing-is-essential-to-successful-e-commerce\/\"><b>remarket<\/b><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to those that have expressed further interest in your ads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>\n<h2><strong> Use Remarketing Audiences That Don\u2019t Rely on Pixel Data<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/business\/learn\/facebook-ads-pixel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Facebook Pixel<\/b><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is an incredible tool for tracking website conversions and remarketing to your top website visitors, which can be segmented by a variety of different actions taken on the site. However, in lieu of the recent Apple update mentioned above, the Pixel\u2019s tracking isn\u2019t as accurate as it used to be.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is likely to be an increasing number of website visitors that you can\u2019t remarket to using your Pixel alone and you may find that existing custom audiences have gotten smaller, which will have a negative impact on their performance in ads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You may have already noticed that your ads seem to be generating an awful lot more link clicks than landing page views, meaning that Facebook is having trouble tracking the clickers from Point A to Point B.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While this isn\u2019t to say that the Pixel is no longer a valid tool for remarketing, it certainly isn\u2019t the be all and end all either. Facebook offers a wide variety of ways to retarget people who have engaged with your ads, as well as your page and its content.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are a few other options for targeting creating remarketing audiences on Facebook and Instagram:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Email lists compiled from <\/span><b>newsletter signups, leads, or customers\u2019 contact info<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are a great way to reach some of your most engaged existing or potential customers<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Note: It is best practice to use a list of at least a few hundred people, but ideally over 1000, as these people then have to be matched to Facebook and\/or Instagram users in order for your ads to deliver properly.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">\n<h4><b>People who click on your ads<\/b><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"3\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you can\u2019t track the people who click on your ads through your website, <\/span><b>track them through the initial click<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"4\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The action of clicking on your ads is something that occurs on the platform itself, so it is not dependent on cookie tracking.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"4\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Note: This method of segmenting your engagement audiences is only available on Facebook, so you will have to use a different option for Instagram.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"4\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This type of audience can be used to <\/span><b>complement your existing Pixel web audiences <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and does not have to be used as a complete alternative.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"5\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After all, some of your website visitors will not have come from Facebook.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"4\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another added bonus to this type of targeting is that the <\/span><b>retargeting period can be as far back as 365 days<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which makes them very <\/span><b>useful for lookalike audiences<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as lookalikes are highly dependent on the size of the initial custom audience.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-63968 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/mailinvest.blog\/wp-content\/themes\/breek\/assets\/images\/transparent.gif\" data-lazy=\"true\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.techwyse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/image1-1.png\" alt=\"3 Tips for Running Facebook and Instagram Ads in 2022\" width=\"403\" height=\"115\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.techwyse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/image1-1.png 403w, https:\/\/www.techwyse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/image1-1-300x86.png 300w\" data-sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 403px) 100vw, 403px\"\/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/business.facebook.com\/adsmanager\/audiences\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Source<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">\n<h4><b>Facebook lead form engagement<\/b><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"3\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People who <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/business\/ads\/lead-ads\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">filled out a lead form<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"3\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People who have opened a lead form<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"4\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you don\u2019t have a large enough list of people who have filled out a lead form, target the ones who opened it<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;
