Though it\u2019s somewhat common for busy politicians to call into television stations from parked cars for interviews, Ford did this segment while his vehicle was still in motion.<\/p>\n<p>In the province of Ontario, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/distracted-driving\">distracted driving is considered the following<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>\u201cUse a phone or other hand-held wireless communication device to text or dial \u2014 you can only touch a device to call 911 in an emergency<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Use a hand-held electronic entertainment device, such as a tablet or portable gaming console<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>View display screens unrelated to driving, such as watching a video<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Program a GPS device, except by voice commands\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the video, Ford, who seems to have his smartphone placed in the centre console of his vehicle, repeatedly glances down at the device while speaking to<em> CP24<\/em>\u2018s George Lagogianes, dividing his attention between the television segment and operating his car.<\/p>\n<p>While taking a phone call from your moving vehicle is legal, video calls fall under the \u201cwatching a video\u201d portion of Ontario\u2019s distracted driving laws.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Premier Doug Ford is driving his vehicle while doing a FaceTime with CP24.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019d think the Premier would know some of the distracting driving laws\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/htT3FXYCuE\">pic.twitter.com\/htT3FXYCuE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Kris Pangilinan (@KrisReports) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KrisReports\/status\/1483113655117955072?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 17, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">If you can, please stay home and off the roadways. Today\u2019s snowfall has caused lots of challenges for commuting. ^CdK<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Toronto Police Operations (@TPSOperations) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TPSOperations\/status\/1483082243203641347?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 17, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>During the PR press release-like interview, Ford says that he\u2019s \u201cpicking people up, checking on people; like everyone else, helping out,\u201d before rolling down his window and ensuring a stranded vehicle is empty, all while live on the air. After it was clear the Premier was doing the interview while on the road, the 24-hour news station cut the video feed on Ford\u2019s smartphone.<\/p>\n<p>Ford\u2019s office also provided images of the Premier helping Toronto residents during the snowstorm to <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/8516631\/doug-ford-helps-drivers-southern-ontario-snowstorm\/\">several publications and television stations.<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">CP24 is interviewing Doug Ford LIVE on TV while he&#8217;s BEHIND THE WHEEL DRIVING in dangerous weather. <br \/>When it was clear that he&#8217;s using a phone while driving, they cut his video.
