At the 80th Golden Globe Awards<\/a> on Tuesday, Quinta Brunson, the creator of the popular mockumentary comedy Abbott Elementary, won the Golden Globe for Best Musical or Comedy Series. Brad Pitt, who was a spectator, was among the persons Brunson recognized in her victory speech as having influenced her. The ABC television series Abbott Elementary, which debuted in December 2021, follows a group of teachers as they deal with the ups and downs of teaching at a public school in Philadelphia. The show received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike and was nominated for an 80th Golden Globe Award with The Bear (FX), Hacks (HBO), Only Murders in the Building (Hulu), and Wednesday (Netflix).<\/p>\n

In addition, Brunson talked openly about the difficulties in getting the program off the ground, claiming that although one other network failed to see its potential, ABC did. When it was made known that Abbott Elementary had won a bid battle over other networks, Brunson called herself \u201clucky\u201d and said she thought it was \u201ca sign that things are changing.\u201d It\u2019s not a typical LA tale being a black creative.
