Stories are how we help numbers make sense.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A story helps marketers communicate complex ideas and accelerate the decision-making process for decision makers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Data makes stories share-worthy and link-worthy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With all of that in mind, data-driven storytelling can help boost the performance of many of your current marketing tactics:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Link building (just about any form of data is known to attract links, especially if it\u2019s packages as a story)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Viral marketing (data told as a story drives people to uncover theories and concepts they\u2019ve never thought of previously, so they are likely to share it around)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sales (thanks to its ability to simplify and hence accelerate the decision making process)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How to Create a Good Data-Driven Story<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are three key factors that make a good story:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It needs to be relevant<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It needs to use good visuals<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It needs to be clear and relatable<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now, add data to that equation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As it sounds pretty vague, let\u2019s look at one perfect example of all of that done absolutely ingeniously. Meet the \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gatesfoundation.org\/goalkeepers\/report\/2019-report\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Examining Inequality<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d report from Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation. This particular story accomplishes everything, from driving conversions (donations) to attracting links and shares.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Data-driven stories can be text-based and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/colorlib.com\/wp\/data-visualization-wordpress-plugins\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">visual<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (or both as the above example). They can be based on public and private data (or both as, again, the above example).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s see if we can learn create stories using data:<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use Public Data to Tell Stories<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is a ton of data available publicly. Some tools are free, some of them are paid, but there\u2019s a variety. Let\u2019s look at the three main tools:<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Google<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Google provides a huge amount of data you can use to re-package into beautiful stories. Here are a few ideas for you to get started:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are a few great <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.prdaily.com\/google-trends-for-writers\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ideas<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on using Google Trends for writers: Some very actionable tips you can implement while reading.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s another <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thinkwithgoogle.com\/intl\/en-gb\/consumer-insights\/consumer-trends\/story-uk-lockdown-through-google-trends\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">example<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of using Google Trends to tell a story of a brand during global lockdowns.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s my own <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/moz.com\/blog\/google-autocomplete-seo-tool\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">guide<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on using Google\u2019s Autocomplete as the data source.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are multiple platforms that use Google to collect even more data. SE Ranking offers an advanced keyword <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/seranking.com\/keyword-suggestion-tool.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">suggestion tool<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that reports on ranking fluctuations, traffic costs and related trends.
