The content available on AM radio\u2014talk shows, sports, news, religious, and ethnic\/minority programming\u2014is as popular as ever. And EV manufacturers <em>could<\/em> solve the interference problem using filters, cables with better shielding, and by taking care where to fit various electrical components inside the vehicle, as Xperi Inc. communications system engineer explained in a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/go.redirectingat.com\/?id=111346X1569484&amp;url=https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/12\/10\/business\/media\/am-radio-cars.html&amp;sref=https:\/\/www.techhive.com\/article\/1469065\/internet-radio-aggregator-tunein-says-its-nearing-a-tipping-point.html&amp;xcust=3-1-1469065-1-0-0\" rel=\"nofollow\">New York Times\u2019 article<\/a> (Xperi developed the HD Radio platform for AM and FM).<\/p>\n<p>Putting that programming on the internet, however, not only makes the interference issue go away, it opens a world of opportunities for manufacturers to <a href=\"https:\/\/go.redirectingat.com\/?id=111346X1569484&amp;url=https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/tech\/automakers-bmw-gm-mercedes-charge-monthly-fees-faster-speeds-heated-seats&amp;sref=https:\/\/www.techhive.com\/article\/1469065\/internet-radio-aggregator-tunein-says-its-nearing-a-tipping-point.html&amp;xcust=3-1-1469065-1-0-0\" rel=\"nofollow\">sell subscriptions<\/a>, including the mobile 5G service needed to bring something like TuneIn to your dashboard.<\/p>\n<p>So, as they did with 8-track, cassette, and CD players, car manufacturers including Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Porsche, Tesla, Volkswagen, and Volvo have all dropped AM radios from their EV\u2019s in-cabin entertainment systems. TuneIn also serves audio feeds of Bloomberg, CNBC, CNN, Fox Radio News, and MSNBC, \u201coffered with fewer or no commercials and more news nuggets than you\u2019d see on the TV versions\u201d Deichert said, plus \u201cnew additions like \u2018Court TV\u2019 and classic episodes of \u2018Jeopardy\u2019 that pack three shows into an hour.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Most of TuneIn\u2019s 70 million (monthly) global listeners go for either the free, ad-supported version or the $9.99 one-time-fee TuneIn Pro, which has fewer commercials.
