Highlight the text you want to bookmark in your Word document and then go to Insert > Bookmark. Assign your bookmark a name and then click “Add.” Then, you can use Word’s Link tool to create a clickable link to your bookmark.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Bookmarks in Microsoft Word are similar to those in your web browser. Once you save a bookmark, you have an easy reference to that spot. To make bookmarks even handier, you can create links to them in your Word document.<\/p>\n

Word bookmarks are convenient for navigating lengthy documents<\/a>, whether for yourself or your readers. When you link to a bookmark within your text, you can skip directly to that location with a click which is ideal for different sections<\/a>, text, visuals, or tables.<\/p>\n

Create a Bookmark in Word<\/h2>\n

Go to the spot in your document where you want to create the bookmark. You can place your cursor in the location or select text, an image, a table, or another item.<\/p>\n

Head to the Insert tab and choose \u201cBookmark\u201d in the Links section of the ribbon.<\/p>\n

If your ribbon is condensed, you should see a Links drop-down box containing the Bookmark option.<\/p>\n

When the Bookmark box appears, give it a name in the \u201cBookmark Name\u201d field. Then, click \u201cAdd\u201d which places the bookmark in the list below and closes the box.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ve then successfully added a bookmark to your document.<\/p>\n

Go to a Bookmark in Your Document<\/h2>\n

You can return to the Insert tab and select \u201cBookmark\u201d to see all of your bookmarks. Select one in the list and click \u201cGo To\u201d to jump to that particular bookmark.<\/p>\n

Alternatively, head to the Home tab in Word on Windows, select \u201cFind,\u201d and pick \u201cGo To\u201d. On Mac, select Edit > Find > Go To from the menu bar.<\/p>\n

On the Go To tab, pick \u201cBookmark\u201d on the left and choose the bookmark name in the drop-down box on the right. Click \u201cGo To.\u201d<\/p>\n

Link to a Bookmark in Word<\/h2>\n

While the options directly above to visit a bookmark are fine, you can make visiting your bookmarks simpler by creating links<\/a>\u00a0to them. This is perfect for you and your readers to jump directly to one with a click.<\/p>\n

Select the text you\u2019d like to link to the bookmark. Then, pick Link > Insert Link on the Insert tab or right-click<\/a>, move to Links, and pick \u201cInsert Link\u201d in the shortcut menu.<\/p>\n

Choose \u201cPlace in This Document\u201d on the left of the Insert Hyperlink box that opens. On Mac, pick \u201cThis Document.\u201d Then, expand Bookmarks and select the one you want.<\/p>\n

Optionally, you can adjust the display text at the top which should be the same text you selected for the link. Then, click \u201cOK\u201d to apply the link.<\/p>\n

Now, give your link a try. Click the hyperlink and you should head straight to the bookmark you assigned to it. On Windows, you may need to hold Ctrl and click<\/a>, depending on your settings.<\/p>\n

Tip:<\/strong> If you hover your cursor over the link, you should see the name of the bookmark in the tool tip.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
