government is reported to be trying once again to have the London Stock Exchange play a part in the public offering of chip design company Arm, following delays to the process that are likely to see it go public later this year.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Financial Times, the latest Prime Minister Rishi Sunak hosted Arm chief executive Rene Haas at Downing Street last month in a meeting to discuss the matter, which was joined remotely by Masayoshi Son, the founder and CEO of Arm\u2019s parent company SoftBank.<\/p>\n<p>The renewed lobbying effort is reported to be aiming to get SoftBank to revive plans for Arm to be listed in both London and New York, according to the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/e2f9a6f1-10bb-41ea-9b95-ea028ee10e9c\">FT<\/a> (paywall), which cites anonymous sources it claimed have been briefed on the discussions.<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" data-pos=\"top\" data-raptor=\"condor\" data-xsm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-sm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-md=\",fluid,mpu,\">\n        <noscript><br \/>\n            <a the London Stock Exchange as it views the company as a success story for the country and a poster child for its ambitions to play a larger part in the global technology industry.<\/p>\n<p>Incentives are <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2022\/07\/22\/lse_ceo_arm_ipo\/\" rel=\"noopener\">said to have been offered<\/a> to SoftBank during the tenure of one of last year\u2019s earlier Prime Ministers, Boris Johnson. However, the lure of easier access to finance and the fact that many of Arm&#8217;s clients are based in the US made the Nasdaq stock exchange in New York the hot favorite for the post-IPO Arm to be listed.<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" data-pos=\"top\" data-raptor=\"falcon\" data-xsm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-sm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-md=\",fluid,mpu,\">\n            <noscript><br \/>\n                <a href=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/jump?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_onprem\/systems&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=4&amp;c=44Y7wU03MB7YzRtCEeHoUP1AAAAIQ&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D4%26raptor%3Dfalcon%26pos%3Dmid%26test%3D0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/ad?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_onprem\/systems&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=4&amp;c=44Y7wU03MB7YzRtCEeHoUP1AAAAIQ&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D426raptor%3Dfalcon%26pos%3Dmid%26test%3D0\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\"\/><br \/>\n                <\/a><br \/>\n            <\/noscript>\n        <\/div>\n<p>So keen was the UK government for Arm to be listed on the London Stock Exchange that it was even rumoured at one point to be <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2022\/06\/22\/uk_govt_arm_ipo\/\" rel=\"noopener\">considering<\/a> invoking the National Security and Investment Act (NSIA), which came into force at the start of last year, to cajole SoftBank into agreeing.<\/p>\n<p>Despite this, we reported last year that SoftBank was <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2022\/06\/24\/arm_nasdaq\/\" rel=\"noopener\">rowing back<\/a> on plans to list Arm on both the London Stock Exchange and Nasdaq, with New York said to be the preferred option.<\/p>\n<p>However, it was reported in November that the IPO had been <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2022\/11\/21\/arm_ipo_delayed\/\" rel=\"noopener\">delayed until sometime later this year<\/a>, amid fears that the worsening global economic outlook might make investors reluctant to buy into the company.<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" id=\"story_eagle_xsm_sm_md_xmd_lg_xlg\" data-pos=\"mid\" data-raptor=\"eagle\" data-xsm=\",mpu,dmpu,\" data-sm=\",mpu,dmpu,\" data-md=\",mpu,dmpu,\" data-xmd=\",mpu,dmpu,\" data-lg=\",mpu,dmpu,\" data-xlg=\",mpu,dmpu,\">\n            <noscript><br \/>\n                <a href=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/jump?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_onprem\/systems&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=3&amp;c=33Y7wU03MB7YzRtCEeHoUP1AAAAIQ&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D3%26raptor%3Deagle%26pos%3Dmid%26test%3D0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/ad?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_onprem\/systems&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=3&amp;c=33Y7wU03MB7YzRtCEeHoUP1AAAAIQ&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D3%26raptor%3Deagle%26pos%3Dmid%26test%3D0\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\"\/><br \/>\n                <\/a><br \/>\n            <\/noscript>\n        <\/div>\n<p>SoftBank had originally announced that it planned to conclude the public offering for Arm within the fiscal year ending March 31, 2023, but during SoftBank&#8217;s Q2 2023 earnings presentation, Arm&#8217;s head of investor relations, Ian Thornton, said this was &#8220;unlikely to happen in this fiscal year&#8221;
