Zhurong has four butterfly-shaped panels to provide that energy.<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" data-pos=\"top\" data-raptor=\"falcon\" data-xsm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-sm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-md=\",fluid,mpu,\">\n            <noscript><br \/>\n                <a href=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/jump?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_offbeat\/science&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=4&amp;c=44Y7vyQvQR5moz66ykplbAuQAAAIQ&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D4%26raptor%3Dfalcon%26pos%3Dmid%26test%3D0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/ad?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_offbeat\/science&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=4&amp;c=44Y7vyQvQR5moz66ykplbAuQAAAIQ&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D426raptor%3Dfalcon%26pos%3Dmid%26test%3D0\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\"\/><br \/>\n                <\/a><br \/>\n            <\/noscript>\n        <\/div>\n<p>According to CAS, when Zhurong is put to sleep, the electronic equipment is shut down as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe solar energy previously collected will be converted into heat energy and stored to uniformly insulate the electronic equipment in the cabin, so as to solve the energy security problem after the rover encounters bad weather &#8211; and ensure that the Zhurong rover has enough energy to complete the autonomous awakening,\u201d read the article, as translated from Chinese.<\/p>\n<p>That autonomous awakening was set to occur when simultaneously the power level hit 140 watts and the temperature of key components rose above 15\u02daC.<\/p>\n<p>According to SCMP, the Chinese space program planned to send its Tianwen-1 probe to observe and photograph the rover in an attempt to diagnose Zhurong\u2019s failure. Unfortunately that probe is also having difficulty, in this case it is failing to make ground station communications.<\/p>\n<p>Space-watcher Scott Tilley has observed Tianwen-1 making the sort of moves that could indicate it&#8217;s trying to take a snap of Zhurong.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/TIANWEN1?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TIANWEN1<\/a> has been expected to conduct aerobraking tests sometime around now. With the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Zhurong?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Zhurong<\/a> apparently sleeping in, I&#8217;ve started an observing campaign on the orbiter. The last couple of nights was uneventful but not enough data to determine orbital period. The rover was expected to survive 90 Martian days but as of June 2022 had exceeded its mission paramters.<\/p>\n<p>Among the Rover&#8217;s accomplishments are almost 2 km of travel and spotting evidence of ancient flooding.
