M Night Shyamalan has told the story of how he protected<\/a> Bruce Willis from Disney execs who wanted him to do publicity.<\/p>\n

As the cast and crew geared up for production, Shyamalan was thrilled. \u201cIt was going to be so much fun to work with them,\u201d he says now. But then things started to unravel. Willis became increasingly vocal<\/a> about what he perceived as Shyamalan\u2019s poor leadership skills, griping about everything from his choice of haircut (it made him look like a \u201cretard\u201d) to his insistence on filming scenes in the rain (he thought it would make him sick).<\/p>\n

M.Night Shyamalan Calls Bruce Willis Big Brother<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

In an interview with GQ magazine in 2015, Willis said it had been \u201can absolute pleasure\u201d working with Shyamalan, who had come off as a \u201cvery nice guy and gentle soul.\u201d But two years later, when asked by Variety if he thought Shyamalan had matured since making Unbreakable, Willis said: \u201cNo\u2026no\u2026he hasn\u2019t changed at all\u2026He\u2019s still exactly who he was before\u2026and I don\u2019t want [his] help anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

The director claims that he tried everything possible to keep things from falling apart but felt powerless against the egos at play: \u201cI\u2019m not saying that any one person is bad or wrong,\u201d says Shyamalan. \u201cEveryone has their own perspective.\u201d He adds: \u201cSomehow those perspectives aren\u2019t aligned.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI got to direct my first movie, and it was a big deal because Disney had given me $6 million. But no one knew what I looked like \u2014 I was just this kid with long hair,\u201d Shyamalan says.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo when The Sixth Sense came out and became a hit, [Disney] said, \u2018Okay, now we\u2019re making a sequel for Bruce Willis!\u2019 And they wanted him on the publicity tour.\u201d<\/p>\n

Willis didn\u2019t want to do it, but Shyamalan told him that if he didn\u2019t do it then he would get fired from directing his next project as well. \u201cAnd so Bruce Willis decided not to go on this press tour,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
