    Have you ever wanted to read a message on Snapchat without alerting the sender that you\u2019ve read it? You can, with a half swipe (also called a half slide). Half swiping is possible in both the iPhone and Android version of Snapchat, and we\u2019ll show you how.<\/p>\n

    Note:<\/strong> As of December 2022, we\u2019ve confirmed that half swiping works on Snapchat. However, since it\u2019s not an official feature, it may stop working anytime with future app updates<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    What Exactly Is Half Swiping on Snapchat?<\/h2>\n

    A half swipe, as the name implies, is a swipe<\/a> across your screen but not a complete one. This trick allows you stealthily read messages without senders knowing\/<\/p>\n

    You may already know that Snapchat notifies the sender when you read their message. With a half swipe, you can read the message, but neither Snapchat nor the sender will know that you\u2019ve done so. This is because you aren\u2019t opening the message, technically, and so Snapchat won\u2019t send a read receipt.<\/p>\n

    Note that this trick only works for reading messages; you can\u2019t view Snaps<\/a> with a half swipe.<\/p>\n

    How to Half Slide on Snapchat<\/h2>\n

    Performing a half swipe or half slide on Snapchat is easy, but you must do it correctly or you risk letting the sender know you\u2019ve read their message.<\/p>\n

    Tip:<\/strong> Consider practicing half swiping on a message you don\u2019t care about first.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    To do a half slide, first, launch the Snapchat app on your iPhone or Android phone. Then, in the app\u2019s bottom bar, tap the \u201cChat\u201d tab.<\/p>\n

    On the \u201cChat\u201d screen, find the conversation where you want to read a message. Don\u2019t tap the conversation or you\u2019ll end up opening it.<\/p>\n

    Next to your chosen chat, tap and hold<\/em> the sender\u2019s Bitmoji<\/a> or profile icon and swipe to the right, but don\u2019t release your swipe just yet.<\/p>\n

    You\u2019ll see your chosen message being revealed when you swipe to the right. Keep your fingers on the screen while you read the message.<\/p>\n

    Note:<\/strong> If you attempt to\u00a0take a screenshot<\/a> while half swiping a message, you\u2019ll notify the sender about it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    When you\u2019ve finished reading the message, drag your finger back to the left so the open message is closed. Then, you may release your swipe.<\/p>\n

    If everything went well, then beneath your friend\u2019s name on the \u201cChat\u201d screen you\u2019ll still see the \u201cNew Chat\u201d label. This confirms you haven\u2019t officially read that message, and the sender hasn\u2019t been notified.<\/p>\n
