Observability has become a hot topic as enterprises dive into data for security reasons, such as detecting malicious actors.<\/p>\n

Using a vendor-agnostic approach to future-proof a security or observability practice, Cribl Inc. acts as a data bridge when enterprises want to scrutinize security issues at different destinations, according to Clint Sharp<\/a> (pictured), co-founder and chief executive officer of Cribl.<\/p>\n

\u201cCribl is an observability company; our flagship product is a telemetry router,\u201d Sharp said. \u201cSo, if I have a security breach, if I have an outage\u00a0and I need to start pouring through this data\u00a0suddenly, the data is very, very valuable. We are this pipeline that\u2019s sitting\u00a0in the middle of all these solutions.\u00a0We don\u2019t care whether your data was originally intended\u00a0for some other tool.\u00a0We\u2019re going to help you in a vendor-neutral way\u00a0get that data wherever you need to get it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sharp spoke with theCUBE industry analysts\u00a0Savannah Peterson<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Dave Vellante<\/a>\u00a0at\u00a0AWS re:Invent<\/a>, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media\u2019s livestreaming studio. They discussed why observability has become a burning issue and how Cribl serves as an observability pipeline.\u00a0(* Disclosure below.)<\/em><\/p>\n

The tension between data and budget growth<\/h3>\n

Since data growth does not move in tandem with budget surges, a data-first approach comes in handy as companies continue moving into databases for security and observability purposes, according to Sharp. As a result, managing data at scale gets simplified.<\/p>\n

\u201cData\u2019s growing at a 25% CAGR per IDC, which means we\u2019re going to have two\u00a0and a half times the data in five years,\u201d he noted.\u00a0\u201cAnd when you talk to CISOs and CIOs\u00a0and you ask them, is your budget growing at a 25% CAGR,\u00a0absolutely not, under no circumstances\u00a0am I going to have, you know, that much more money. And that\u2019s where you\u2019re starting to see things\u00a0like the AWS security data lake,\u00a0Snowflake moving into this space.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since security is not immune to macro conditions, Cribl renders a real \u201cflight to value\u201d in the observability space, Sharp explained. Therefore, cost optimization becomes inevitable.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously we\u2019re keeping our eye closely\u00a0on the macro conditions, but we see such a huge opportunity because we\u2019re a value player in this space\u00a0that there\u2019s a real\u00a0flight\u00a0to value in enterprises right now,\u201d he pointed out. \u201cThey\u2019re looking for projects\u00a0that are going to pay themselves back, and we\u2019ve always had this value prop; we\u2019re going to come give you a lot of capabilities, but we\u2019re probably going to save you money at the same time.\u201d<\/p>\n
