Tesla said its deliveries grew 40 percent year-over-year to 1.31 million, while production rose by 47 percent to 1.37 million.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Multiple publications reported Tesla&#8217;s quarterly delivery numbers as a record for the EV maker, but <em>Bloomberg<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2023-01-02\/tesla-notches-record-delivering-405-278-cars-in-fourth-quarter\" rel=\"nofollow\">said<\/a> it still falls short of analysts averages it compiled, which predicted the delivery of an additional 15,000 Teslas.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" data-pos=\"top\" data-raptor=\"condor\" data-xsm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-sm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-md=\",fluid,mpu,\">\n        <noscript><br \/>\n            <a href=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/jump?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_onprem\/personaltech&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=2&amp;c=2Y7R@X5oZdBHvCy1utPv@cgAAAEQ&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D2%26raptor%3Dcondor%26pos%3Dtop%26test%3D0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n                <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mailinvest.blog\/wp-content\/themes\/breek\/assets\/images\/transparent.gif\" data-lazy=\"true\" data-src=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/ad?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_onprem\/personaltech&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=2&amp;c=2Y7R@X5oZdBHvCy1utPv@cgAAAEQ&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D2%26raptor%3Dcondor%26pos%3Dtop%26test%3D0\" alt=\"\"\/><br \/>\n            <\/a><br \/>\n        <\/noscript>\n    <\/div>\n<p>A single miss amid a quarter of record deliveries might not seem like a big deal, but it&#8217;s just one more bit of bad news to heap onto Tesla&#8217;s mountain of problems.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Demand is one of Tesla&#8217;s major issues, says Berstein analyst Toni Sacconaghi, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.streetinsider.com\/Analyst+Comments\/Tesla+%28TSLA%29+facing+a+significant+demand+problem%2C+202324+numbers+could+materially+reset+-+analyst\/21022358.html\" rel=\"nofollow\">believes<\/a> Tesla needs to reduce its <a href=\"https:\/\/ir.tesla.com\/_flysystem\/s3\/sec\/000156459021002645\/tsla-8k_20210127-gen.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow\">self-imposed<\/a> [PDF] (and missed) 50 percent annual growth target and cut production.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Further evidence of fading demand can be found in Tesla&#8217;s offered discount to customers taking early delivery in late 2022, which apparently wasn&#8217;t sufficient to give its numbers a needed year-end boost. Such freezing temperatures cause the range on Teslas to plummet by up to 50 percent, the Korean Fair Trade Commission <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/commodities\/south-korea-fines-tesla-22-mln-exaggerating-driving-range-evs-2023-01-03\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">said<\/a>, adding that Tesla made no mention of range loss on its Korean-facing website.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The US EV maker exaggerated driving range, cost-effectiveness compared to gasoline vehicles and the performance of its Superchargers, the KFTC said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Ives has been one of <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/tesla-wall-street-reacts-to-q-4-delivery-miss-144645655.html\" rel=\"nofollow\">several voices<\/a> critical of Tesla CEO Elon Musk&#8217;s leadership &#8211; or lack thereof &#8211; since acquiring Twitter late last year. Ives and other Tesla investors have called for Musk to <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2022\/12\/15\/tesla-shareholder-twitter-ceo-elon-musk-ouster-stock-falls-61-percent\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">step down<\/a> from his role as CEO of the car company and accused him of using Tesla &#8220;as an ATM,&#8221; a fact supported by Musk&#8217;s sale of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2022\/11\/09\/musk_sells_nearly_4_billion\/\">billions in Tesla stock<\/a> in the wake of his Twitter purchase.<\/p>\n<p>Ives <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/o\/EgVPE\/https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/elon-musk-tesla-down-700-billion-in-value-angry-investors\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">said<\/a> the clock of frustration among Tesla investors &#8220;has struck 12,&#8221; but despite shareholder objections &#8220;Musk appears to be doubling down.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"crosshead\">Sinks let in at Twitter seem to be leaking from Tesla<\/h3>\n<p>Musk&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2022\/11\/11\/twitter_musk_week\/\">saga of chaos<\/a> at Twitter isn&#8217;t just upsetting Tesla shareholders, it&#8217;s also affecting their bottom line in a major way: Tesla stock lost 65 percent of its value over the course of 2022, shaving around $672 billion off its market value, <em>The New York Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/12\/30\/business\/tesla-stock-elon-musk.html\" rel=\"nofollow\">reported<\/a> last week.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla stock was on a gradual decline for all of 2022, but that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/12\/13\/tesla-stock-down-28percent-since-elon-musk-took-over-twitter.html\" rel=\"nofollow\">loss accelerated<\/a> once Musk bought Twitter. Tesla stock lost nearly 40 percent of its value in December 2022, its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/tesla-stock-is-headed-for-its-biggest-ever-annual-decline-11672374248\" rel=\"nofollow\">worst monthly performance<\/a> on record.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Since trading opened for the year on January 3, Tesla stock has lost an additional thirteen percent as of writing, placing it dangerously close to dipping below $100.
