You could be missing out on an opportunity for better subscriber loyalty, more engagement, and more sales.<\/p>\n<p>Imagine it\u2019s your birthday\u2026<\/p>\n<p>You roll over in bed and grab your phone, sifting through texts and emails wishing you well on your special day. In your inbox, there\u2019s a message waiting for you with a free offer, just for you, to help you celebrate.<\/p>\n<p>Now, how do you feel? Appreciated? Special? Well, that\u2019s the point of a birthday email: to make your subscribers feel special.<\/p>\n<p>Birthday emails are a great experience for your subscribers, but as a marketer, you\u2019ll get plenty of benefits from them as well. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.experian.com\/assets\/marketing-services\/white-papers\/ccm-birthday-emails-best-practices-guide.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Experian<\/a>, birthday email campaigns have a:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>342% higher revenue per message<\/li>\n<li>481% higher conversion rates<\/li>\n<li>179% unique click rates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So if you\u2019re wondering if you should be sending a birthday email, our recommendation is yes.<\/p>\n<p>But before you start sending these special emails\u2026 you\u2019re going to need to know your subscribers\u2019 birthdays.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-how-to-get-your-subscribers-birthdays\">How to get your subscribers\u2019 birthdays<\/h2>\n<h3 id=\"h-on-your-sign-up-form\"><strong>On your sign-up form<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Surprisingly, many businesses do not send out birthday emails simply because they don\u2019t take the time to collect that information.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So when setting up your <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.aweber.com\/email-marketing\/16-proven-sign-up-form-ideas-to-grow-your-email-list.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sign-up form<\/a>, add a <a href=\"https:\/\/help.aweber.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/204027516-How-do-I-create-custom-fields-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">custom field<\/a> to collect your subscribers\u2019 birthdays. Just don\u2019t make this a required field, as your subscribers\u2019 email addresses are the most important element. If you can get only one piece of information, get that. Asking for too much information can make people not want to sign up.<\/p>\n<p>But if asking for people\u2019s birthdays doesn\u2019t suppress your opt-in rates too much, add an optional custom field for birthdays. And when you ask for someone\u2019s birthday information, just ask for the day and month of their birthday. People are usually willing to share the month and day they were born, but may be hesitant to tell you which year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pro tip: <\/strong>Consider adding text below the birthday field that tells the customer why you\u2019re asking for their birthday. For example, \u201cEnter your birthday so we can send you a gift.\u201d People are more willing to give information if they know why you need it and how you will use it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s how retailer DSW has set up their sign-up form. This is a bit more information than most sign-up forms ask for, but you get the idea. Also note how they\u2019ve made the birthday information optional. Simply set up an email campaign to collect your subscribers\u2019 birthday information.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Use a subject line like:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to send you a birthday gift!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>or\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a birthday gift for you, but we don\u2019t have your birthday.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Let them know why you want to know their birthday, so they\u2019re more likely to respond.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Also keep this email simple.
