While databases propel application development, their sprawling number is proving to be a complexity for developer teams managing them all.<\/p>\n

Through a database as a service infrastructure called SkySQL, the MariaDB Foundation looks to propel data management by rendering reliability, availability, performance, and security, according to Jon Bakke<\/a> (pictured), chief revenue officer at the MariaDB.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re building our cloud, our premier cloud service called SkySQL, on Amazon Web Services,\u201d Bakke stated.\u00a0\u201cThey offer the best-in-class infrastructure\u00a0for a SaaS company to build what they\u2019re building.\u00a0The thing that makes that important\u00a0is that instead of having siloed services,\u00a0you have integrated data services.\u00a0And a lot of times when you ask a question that\u2019s analytical, it might depend on a transaction. That makes the entire experience\u00a0best for the developer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bakke, spoke with industry analysts\u00a0John Furrier<\/a> and\u00a0Paul Gillin<\/a>\u00a0at\u00a0AWS re:Invent<\/a>, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media\u2019s livestreaming studio. They discussed the importance of data management in amidst modern cloud architectures, and how SkySQL and MariaDB fit in the picture.\u00a0(* Disclosure below.)<\/em><\/p>\n

SkySQL integrates data capabilities for developers to move faster<\/h3>\n

As the cloud trend continues to tick, Bakke believes SkySQL integrates data services so that developers\u2019 lives can be made easier. As a result, cooperation is taken a notch higher.<\/p>\n

\u201cWatching it unfold helped us realize that\u00a0we\u2019re going to put MariaDB in its best form factor in SkySQL,\u201d he stated.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s the only place\u00a0you could get the enterprise version of MariaDB\u00a0in a cloud service. We want it integrated in the service\u00a0so that it\u2019s one data provision, one data capability for the application developer.\u00a0We had a customer go to Telefonica over in the U.K. that moved from an on-premise\u00a0to manage their WiFi services across Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n

The technology deployed in SkySQL plays an instrumental role in securing and protecting data, Bakke pointed out. This is based on the rigorous process endured.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn SkySQL, we have SOC 2 compliance, for example,\u201d he noted. \u201cSo we\u2019ve gone through commercial certifications\u00a0to make sure customers can depend\u00a0that we are following processes. We also, in SkySQL,\u00a0offer a geospatial offering\u00a0that integrates with all of that.\u00a0And then we even take it further than that\u00a0with distributed SQL database Xpand\u201d for large, mission-critical read\/write scale applications.<\/p>\n
