<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/HyvMOBK26E\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pic.twitter.com\/HyvMOBK26E<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 DuckDuckGo (@DuckDuckGo) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DuckDuckGo\/status\/1481687639879266307?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">January 13, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>If you dig into the numbers, however, it\u2019s evident the selling point of the private search engine is losing its appeal.<\/p>\n<p>DuckDuckGo\u2019s average daily search volume grew <strong>17%<\/strong> from January 2021 to January 2022.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s the slowest rate of growth for DuckDuckGo in the past five years, and a steep drop from the growth it experienced in 2019 to 2020.<\/p>\n<p>From January 2019 to January 2020, DuckDuckGo\u2019s average daily search volume grew <strong>52%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the years before that it was hitting over <strong>60%<\/strong> growth.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a breakdown of DuckDuckGo\u2019s growth in daily searches:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>January 2021 to January 2022 \u2013 <strong>17% increase<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>January 2019 to January 2020 \u2013 <strong>52% increase<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>January 2018 to January 2019 \u2013 <strong>62% increase<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>January 2017 to January 2018 \u2013 <strong>61% increase<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>January 2016 to January 2017 \u2013 <strong>30% increase<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the very least, DuckDuckGo sustained the growth it achieved from 2019 to 2020 and increased it by a small margin.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s a positive thing compared to a year-over-year decrease in daily search volume.<\/p>\n<h2>More Evidence Of DuckDuckGo\u2019s Waning Popularity<\/h2>\n<p>Last January, all signs were pointing to DuckDuckGo\u2019s popularity growing like never before.<\/p>\n<p>Not only was search volume up over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.searchenginejournal.com\/duckduckgo-hits-new-record-100-million-searches-per-day\/392736\/\">50% year-over-year<\/a>, but it hit #1 in the iOS App Store in the Utilities category.<\/p>\n<p>DuckDuckGo even cracked the top 10 in the iOS App Store among all apps.<\/p>\n<p>Now?<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s sitting at #18 in the Utilities category, and is so low among all apps that the data isn\u2019t available.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_433269\" style=\"width: 349px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-433269 b-lazy pcimg\" alt=\"duckduckgo 100 billion\" width=\"339\" height=\"282\" data-srcset=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/mailinvest.blog\/wp-content\/themes\/breek\/assets\/images\/transparent.gif\" data-lazy=\"true\" data-src=\"https:\/\/cdn.searchenginejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/screen-shot-2022-01-16-at-6.37.34-pm-61e4b43080b74-sej.png\"\/><span class=\"wp-caption-text\">Screenshot from similarweb.com\/app\/app-store, January 2022.<\/span><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mailinvest.blog\/wp-content\/themes\/breek\/assets\/images\/transparent.gif\" data-lazy=\"true\" data-src=\"https:\/\/cdn.searchenginejournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/screen-shot-2022-01-16-at-6.37.34-pm-61e4b43080b74-sej.png\" alt=\"duckduckgo 100 billion\"\/><\/noscript><\/div>\n<h2>But Wait, There\u2019s More!<\/h2>\n<p>Last year at this time, DuckDuckGo was the #2 mobile search engine in the US.<\/p>\n<p>This year it <strong>lost<\/strong> the #2 spot to Yahoo.
