And they don&#8217;t need millions of followers to earn money on Instagram.<\/p>\n<p>As more brands <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/how-instagram-micro-influencers-make-money-from-sponsored-posts-rate-2020-3?r=instagram-influencer-lp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">turn<\/a> to smaller creators like &#8220;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/types-of-influencers-on-social-media-micro-macro-nano-classification-2020-1#1-nano-influencers-1?r=instagram-influencer-lp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">nano<\/a>&#8221; or &#8220;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/types-of-influencers-on-social-media-micro-macro-nano-classification-2020-1#2-micro-influencers-2?r=instagram-influencer-lp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">micro<\/a>&#8221; influencers with under 100,000 followers, establishing a full-time <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/become-content-creator-instagram-tiktok-six-figures-full-time-2022-3?r=instagram-influencer-lp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">career as a creator<\/a> is no longer a pipe dream.<\/p>\n<p data-pos=\"10\">But it&#8217;s not so straightforward to start earning money on Instagram. Unlike YouTube, Instagram doesn&#8217;t yet have a comparable payment system in place like <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/how-much-money-youtube-stars-make-per-month-creator-income-2020-5?r=instagram-influencer-lp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">YouTube&#8217;s Partner Program.<\/a> Typically, influencers rely on sponsored content to make a living. From posting a picture to the main feed with #ad to sharing swipe-up links in a series of Stories, sponsored content takes on many different shapes.<\/p>\n<p data-p-pos=\"38_5\">Rates for these types of brand deals <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/how-much-money-instagram-influencers-are-paid-each-month-survey-2021-6?r=instagram-influencer-lp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">also vary<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, Nate White, a comedy creator who had 1.8 million TikTok followers and 340,000 Instagram followers <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/tiktoker-built-a-six-figure-income-brand-partnerships-no-agent-2022-9?r=instagram-influencer-lp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">when Insider interviewed him<\/a>, has a base rate of $3,000. Meanwhile, Jour&#8217;dan Haynes, a nano influencer, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/nano-influencer-5900-instagram-followers-media-kit-brand-deal-2022-11?r=instagram-influencer-lp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">told Insider she can earn up to $600 per post.<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-pos=\"16\">To land on these rates, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/how-to-get-paid-brand-sponsorship-deal-instagram-youtube-influencer-2019-8?r=instagram-influencer-lp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">some<\/a> influencers rely on formulas like charging brands $100 for every 10,000 followers. But not everyone agrees on one formula. <\/p>\n<p data-pos=\"18\">Each deal has to also account for an influencer&#8217;s following, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/influencer-engagement-rate-comparison-data-instagram-tiktok-2021-4?r=instagram-influencer-lp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">engagement metrics<\/a>, and niche, as well as deal terms like exclusivity, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/influencer-usage-rights-in-brand-contracts-explained-by-lawyer-2020-9?r=instagram-influencer-lp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">usage rights<\/a>, and timing.<\/p>\n<p>But if influencers negotiate well, brand deals can lead to big paychecks. For instance, one influencer with 275,000 followers told Insider she had booked <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/how-instagram-lifestyle-influencer-earned-700-thousand-dollars-details-2021-7?r=instagram-influencer-lp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">$700,000 in brand deals<\/a> in six months. And two micro influencers told Insider they earned <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/micro-influencer-instagram-brand-deals-details-examples-of-earnings-2022-2?r=instagram-influencer-lp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">six-figure yearly salaries<\/a> as full-time creators.<\/p>\n<p>Sponsored content, however, isn&#8217;t the only income generator for these influencers \u2014 although it is generally the most lucrative.<\/p>\n<p data-pos=\"24\">Influencers on Instagram can also earn commissions on <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/how-influencers-make-money-using-affiliate-marketing-programs-examples-2021-7?r=instagram-influencer-lp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">affiliate links<\/a>, profits from <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/top-influencer-merchandise-companies-for-youtube-tiktok-creators-2020-10?r=instagram-influencer-lp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">selling merchandise<\/a>, and proceeds from <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/instagram-testing-affiliate-marketing-tools-for-creators-2021-6?r=instagram-influencer-lp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">monetization tools<\/a> Meta has introduced. One influencer who spoke with Insider made an average of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/tiktok-skincare-influencer-makes-5000-per-month-with-affiliate-links-2020-10?r=instagram-influencer-lp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">$5,000 per month<\/a> through affiliate links alone.
