Musk has brought in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2022\/11\/06\/elon-musk-inner-circle\/?itid=lk_inline_manual_34\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new roster of leaders<\/a>, many who are loyalists.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body grid-center grid-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css font-copy\">When one executive met with Musk and voiced concerns about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2022\/09\/12\/mudge-twitter-ftc-consent-decrees\/?itid=lk_inline_manual_35\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Trade Commission\u2019s consent decree<\/a>, Musk assured that person there was nothing to worry about. Employees that week found Weiss\u2019s name searchable in Slack, the company\u2019s internal messaging service. But her access was overseen by a chaperone, new Twitter Trust and Safety chief Ella Irwin.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body grid-center grid-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css font-copy\">Irwin\u2019s name appeared in a watermark on the Twitter Files. When Twitter suspended more than half a dozen journalists last week over alleged violations of its rules on doxing \u2014 the sharing of private information \u2014 the suspensions were labeled in internal systems \u201cdirection of Ella.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body grid-center grid-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css font-copy\">Musk also used internal systems to dig up an old message from his previous Trust and Safety head and took aim at Twitter executives, unleashing a swarm of criticism on employees \u2014 sometimes while they were still working for Twitter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body grid-center grid-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css font-copy\">\u201cThese guys did amazing damage,\u201d one former employee said of Musk\u2019s circle at Twitter, which included employees of his other companies and friends who lacked expertise on Twitter. \u201cThey are basically bullying their way to getting \u2018super god\u2019 access to these things. All they\u2019re doing is they\u2019re witch hunting for Elon, so they can find people talking [about him] so they can fire them.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body grid-center grid-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css font-copy\">Musk is running the newly private company largely on his instincts \u2014 mirroring the workflows of his other major technology company: Tesla. The electric car company, the world\u2019s most valuable automaker, has eschewed market research in its dominance of the electric vehicle space, seeding the automotive industry with a raw and authentic expressions of Musk\u2019s id. Tesla\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2019\/11\/21\/america-loves-pickup-trucks-can-elon-musk-win-drivers-over-with-tesla-cybertruck\/?itid=lk_inline_manual_54\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stainless steel Cybertruck pickup<\/a>, which shocked automotive analysts with its angular sci-fi looks, has served as a key example of that ethos.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body grid-center grid-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css font-copy\">At Tesla, employees often find out about deadlines and major product changes through tweeted edicts. But they have also grown used to the CEO\u2019s shoot-from-the-hip attitude, his reliance on his gut instincts rather than the research and development arms typical of multibillion-dollar corporations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body grid-center grid-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css font-copy\">But Tesla\u2019s stock price has plummeted \u2014 which Musk frequently attributes to economic trends.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body grid-center grid-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css font-copy\">\u201cAs bank savings account interest rates, which are guaranteed, start to approach stock market returns, which are *not* guaranteed, people will increasingly move their money out of stocks into cash, thus causing stocks to drop,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1605304935876280323?s=20&amp;t=I2TzRJdQTKHnJushfAZRBw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in a tweet Tuesday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body grid-center grid-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css font-copy\">But analysts have pointed to problems more specific to Tesla and concern with Musk\u2019s time at Twitter, suggesting in essence that the sheen has worn off a company whose value was not rooted in its fundamentals.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body grid-center grid-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css font-copy\">\u201cI felt for a while he was given a pass,\u201d said Karl Brauer, executive analyst at the website iSeeCars. \u201c\u2018Oh, it\u2019s Elon.
