class=\"wp-block-bigbite-multi-title\"\/>\n<p>Anker-owned Eufy is speaking up following last month\u2019s revelations that its supposedly local-only security cameras were using the cloud without properly notifying users.<\/p>\n<p>After weeks of silence, <a href=\"https:\/\/go.redirectingat.com\/?id=111346X1569484&amp;url=https:\/\/community.security.eufy.com\/t\/to-our-eufy-security-customers-and-partners\/3568215&amp;sref=https:\/\/www.techhive.com\/article\/1441481\/eufy-security-issues.html&amp;xcust=3-1-1441481-1-0-0\" rel=\"nofollow\">Eufy admitted in a lengthy post on its community forum<\/a> that it \u201cmust be more clear about which of our processes are done locally and which require using our secure AWS server,\u201d and that it must deliver \u201cmore straightforward and timely communications\u201d to its users.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMoving forward, we will need to better balance our need to get \u2018all the facts\u2019 with our obligation to keep our customers more quickly informed,\u201d Eufy said.<\/p>\n<p>Eufy also admitted that a \u201clive view\u201d feature on its web portal has a \u201csecurity flaw,\u201d which it patched by blocking the ability of users to view or share live streams from their Eufy cams without first logging into the Eufy web portal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The brand denied that the flaw had exposed any user data, while promising to \u201ccontinue to look for ways to enhance this feature.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Eufy didn\u2019t directly address the <a href=\"https:\/\/go.redirectingat.com\/?id=111346X1569484&amp;url=https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2022\/11\/30\/23486753\/anker-eufy-security-camera-cloud-private-encryption-authentication-storage&amp;sref=https:\/\/www.techhive.com\/article\/1441481\/eufy-security-issues.html&amp;xcust=3-1-1441481-1-0-0\" rel=\"nofollow\">explosive reports from The Verge<\/a> and others that they had managed to stream unencrypted video footage from Eufy security cams using the VLC media player, except to note that \u201cpotential security flaws discussed online are speculative.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Eufy acknowledged that it should be \u201cmore clear\u201d about any data that goes to the cloud\u2013specifically, when opt-in push notifications to phones send preview images to Eufy\u2019s Amazon-powered web server.<\/p>\n<p>Eufy said those preview images are \u201cprotected by end-to-end encryption\u201d and \u201cdeleted shortly after\u201d the initial push notification, but that revised language in the Eufy app disclosing the AWS cloud usage \u201cisn\u2019t enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMoving forward, this will be a significant area of improvement for our marketing and communication teams and will be added to our website, privacy policies, and other marketing materials,\u201d Eufy said in the statement, which ends without a full-on apology.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve reached out to Anker for comment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.techhive.com\/article\/1418923\/ankers-eufy-security-cameras-hit-with-new-privacy-brouhaha.html\">The Eufy brouhaha erupted late last month<\/a> after a security researcher claimed he could access a thumbnail of a video event recording from his Eufy Doorbell Dual, as well as pictures of faces that were recognized in the clip, on Eufy\u2019s AWS servers, even though he had disabled the doorbell\u2019s cloud access.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/go.redirectingat.com\/?id=111346X1569484&amp;url=https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2022\/11\/30\/23486753\/anker-eufy-security-camera-cloud-private-encryption-authentication-storage&amp;sref=https:\/\/www.techhive.com\/article\/1441481\/eufy-security-issues.html&amp;xcust=3-1-1441481-1-0-0\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Verge verified the researcher\u2019s claims<\/a> while also revealing that it managed to \u201cstream video from a Eufy camera, from the other side of the country, with no encryption at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Soon after the reports came to light, <a href=\"https:\/\/go.redirectingat.com\/?id=111346X1569484&amp;url=https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2022\/12\/16\/23512952\/anker-eufy-delete-promises-camera-privacy-encryption-authentication&amp;sref=https:\/\/www.techhive.com\/article\/1441481\/eufy-security-issues.html&amp;xcust=3-1-1441481-1-0-0\" rel=\"nofollow\">Eufy quietly altered its Privacy Commitment web page<\/a>, nixing roughly 10 security promises while clarifying a number of others and adding disclosures about Eufy\u2019s use of AWS
