In life, leadership is best done by example. And Accenture PLC has put its money squarely where its mouth is, having migrated all of the constituent business-critical services to the public cloud.<\/p>\n

\u201cAccenture\u2019s journey to the cloud is complete,\u201d said Merim Becirovic<\/a>\u00a0(pictured, right), managing director at Accenture PLC. \u201cBut now we are this cloud continuum<\/span>\u00a0living in the cloud.<\/span>\u00a0And the thing we talk about\u00a0<\/span>is we have built our digital core in a cloud.<\/span>\u00a0We\u2019re no longer dependent on data centers.<\/span>\u00a0And that has given us tremendous flexibility<\/span>\u00a0around enabling the business<\/span>\u00a0as it has grown significantly<\/span>\u00a0since we started this journey.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Becirovic and Chris Wegmann<\/a>\u00a0(pictured, left), global technology and practice lead at Accenture\u2019s AWS Business Group,\u00a0spoke with theCUBE industry analyst John Walls<\/a> at the <\/span>AWS Executive Summit at re:Invent<\/span><\/a>, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media\u2019s livestreaming studio. They discussed Accenture\u2019s continuing top-down cloud transformation journey. <\/span>(* Disclosure below.)<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

The rewards of a comprehensive overhaul<\/h3>\n

From a scaling point of view, building out that digital core in the cloud has allowed Accenture to expand its reach as a global IT organization now supporting a workforce of more than 720,000 people in around 130 different countries, according to Wegmann.<\/p>\n

And from a growth and adaptability perspective, it\u2019s allowed the company to weather the pandemic\u2019s worst effects, chiefly through enabling efficient company-wide remote working capabilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cWithout the strong digital core<\/span>\u00a0built on cloud, w<\/span>e couldn\u2019t do that,\u201d Wegmann explained. \u201c<\/span>We couldn\u2019t add that number of people or make\u00a0<\/span>the changes that were needed<\/span>\u00a0during COVID to get people<\/span>\u00a0working from home.<\/span>\u00a0Whether it is<\/span>\u00a0the way we changed our business model<\/span>\u00a0or things like that, it<\/span>\u00a0was all enabled by cloud.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Looking in-depth, Accenture structured its long-term journey as a migration of workloads first, followed by a modernization of processes. And it has yielded benefits, according to Becirovic.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s proven very effective. Since\u00a0<\/span>we got that core in place, w<\/span>e were able to build off of tha<\/span>t,\u201d he said. \u201cIt would\u2019ve taken a lot more time<\/span>\u00a0just to start with a modernization approach.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
