Activision was sued and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2021\/07\/23\/blizzard_lawsuit_discrimination\/\">accused<\/a> of supporting a toxic &#8220;frat boy&#8221; workplace culture.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Top execs at the studio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2021\/11\/03\/activision_jen_oneal\/\">resigned<\/a>, workers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2022\/05\/26\/activision_union_staffing\/\">fought<\/a> to unionize, all while its longtime mega-rich CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2021\/10\/28\/activision_ceo_salary\/\">promised<\/a> to cut his salary until he cracked down on sexual harassment and boosted diversity in the workplace. Meanwhile, Microsoft <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2022\/12\/08\/microsoft_activision_ftc_cwa\/\">launched<\/a> a campaign trying to push the deal forward by publishing op-eds in the Wall Street Journal, meeting with lawmakers, and signing an ten-year agreement to publish Call of Duty for Nintendo consoles, such as the Switch.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Officials at the FTC, however, remained unconvinced Microsoft would keep its promise of releasing Activision&#8217;s games across multiple consoles competing with the Xbox.
