Fresh Christmas tree delivery, an ecommerce innovation that got a shot in the arm during the pandemic<\/a>, is expanding once again with the addition of Instacart.<\/p>\n

The delivery service is adding fresh-cut and artificial trees, as well as d\u00e9cor like ornaments and lights, for the first time in 2022. Retailers that offer similar services include Home Depot, Lowe\u2019s, Walmart and Williams Sonoma.<\/p>\n

Instacart is offering same-day delivery \u201cfrom a variety of grocery, wholesale, home improvement and specialty stores across the country\u201d where available. Tree delivery is possible thanks to Instacart\u2019s Big and Bulky fulfillment program, which \u201cenables retailers to offer same-day and scheduled delivery for large items up to 60 pounds.\u201d Live trees are limited to 5 feet, while artificial trees can be up to 9 feet.<\/p>\n

Shoppers can also request tree trimming within the delivery instructions on the app.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhether you don\u2019t have a big enough car or just want to save some time, Instacart is providing customers a convenient way to get the centerpiece of their holiday celebrations delivered directly to their homes, alongside the rest of their seasonal decor from retail stores nationwide,\u201d according to the platform.<\/p>\n

In a statement, chief product officer Daniel Danker said this enables customers to \u201cspend more time holiday-ing and less time hauling.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Christmas tree delivery dates back to at least 2013 when\u00a0Home Depot partnered with Uber<\/a>\u00a0for an on-demand service called UberTrees, Adweek covered just how the pandemic accelerated consumer adoption in 2020<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That was in part because consumers were seeking to balance tradition and safety throughout the holidays, much like Lowe\u2019s and Walmart did with\u00a0trick-or-treat events for Halloween 2020<\/a>\u2014and as Macy\u2019s, Bass Pro Shops and Cabela\u2019s offered with virtual and socially distant Santas for Christmas<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But it\u2019s also because shoppers were\u2014and remain\u2014much more comfortable buying groceries and big ticket items online.<\/p>\n

As Jason Woosley, vp of commerce product and platform at\u00a0Adobe, explained it in 2020, \u201cThere was a time that folks would say, \u2018I would never trust somebody else to pick out my fresh fruits and vegetables,\u2019 and now I think that\u2019s becoming very much the norm.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
