In the enterprise world, developer productivity has emerged as a proxy for innovation.<\/p>\n

By bringing the data and application stacks together, MongoDB Inc. offers developers the opportunity to build smart applications that embed analytics using the same analogy of sophisticated Google Maps, according to Dev Ittycheria<\/a> (pictured), president and chief executive officer of MongoDB.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the next big platform shift is from what I call dumb apps to smart apps, so building more intelligence into applications,\u201d Ittycheria said. \u201cUltimately, you can\u2019t really\u00a0deploy at scale unless you give developers the tools to build those smart applications; that\u2019s what we focused on.\u00a0And a big part of that is what we call application-driven analytics, where people can embed that intelligence into applications so that they can make decisions faster.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ittycheria spoke with theCUBE industry analysts\u00a0John Furrier<\/a>\u00a0and Dave Vellante<\/a>\u00a0at\u00a0AWS re:Invent<\/a>, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media\u2019s livestreaming studio. They discussed how smart applications will be a game-changer and how MongoDB fits in the picture.\u00a0(* Disclosure below.)<\/em><\/p>\n

Democratizing data<\/h3>\n

By democratizing the ability to use tools to build smart applications, MongoDB enables enterprises to put data at the core of their business for better decision-making, according to Ittycheria. Therefore, developers will revamp the apps space just like they did in the ops world by making infrastructure a programmable interface, he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe whole purpose of a developer data platform is to enable them to have the tools \u2026 to have very sophisticated analytics\u00a0\u2014 to have the ability to do very sophisticated indexes,\u00a0optimized for analytics, the ability to use data lakes for very efficient storage and retrieval of\u00a0data to leverage edge devices, to be able to capture and synchronize data,\u201d Ittycheria pointed out. \u201cThese are all critical elements to build these next-generation applications.\u201d<\/p>\n

By offering a broad set of capabilities, MongoDB has set its eyes on making developers\u2019 lives easier when building modern applications, according to Ittycheria, who said that the platform has an elegant developer interface, which prompts data to be kept in one place.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo what we\u2019ve done is a first-class transactional platform, and now we\u2019re expanding the platform to\u00a0do things like search and analytics,\u201d he noted. \u201cI was just meeting with a customer who was thinking about Mongo for their transactional platform,\u00a0elastic for the search platform, and a graph database for a special use\u00a0case. And, and we said, \u2018You can do all that on MongoDB.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
