While Microsoft\u2019s older OS is still usable today, Microsoft <a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/759245\/should-you-upgrade-to-windows-11\/\">really wants you to update<\/a>\u00a0if you have the chance, and Windows 10 is adding a new alert to remind you.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft is deploying the\u00a0KB5020683 update for several versions of Windows 10, including all versions since version 2004. The update will show a new splash screen saying that \u201cthe next version of Windows is here\u201d and prompting you to download and install an upgrade to Windows 11 for free. The update will only be shown if your computer is compatible with Windows 11\u2019s stringent official minimum requirements \u2014 if your PC doesn\u2019t have more than 4GB of RAM, or TPM 2.0, then the update prompt will not be shown.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-852747\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/mailinvest.blog\/wp-content\/themes\/breek\/assets\/images\/transparent.gif\" data-lazy=\"true\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/opt-in-to-upgrade-to-windows-11-from-windows-oobe-650x365.jpg?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"359\" src=\"https:\/\/mailinvest.blog\/wp-content\/themes\/breek\/assets\/images\/transparent.gif\" data-lazy=\"true\" data-src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span class=\"imagecredit\">ghacks.net<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The upgrade button is displayed prominently on the screen, and there\u2019s no option to decline the upgrade \u2014 instead, all you get is a \u201cremind me later\u201d button if you\u2019d rather not take the upgrade now. This button will keep the splash screen from showing up, but Windows might still occasionally nag you to upgrade to the newer OS eventually. Clicking the \u201cupgrade to Windows 11\u201d button will start the download process immediately.<\/p>\n<p>This is likely one of Microsoft\u2019s last-ditch efforts to get people to upgrade, short of installing the update automatically without permission.
