When it launches, the AR\/VR headset will mark the company&#8217;s first new product group since the Apple Watch was released in 2015.<\/p>\n<p data-pos=\"6\">The name change provides a glimpse into the gadget&#8217;s features as the tech giant ramps up its development efforts, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-12-01\/apple-mixed-reality-headset-rivaling-meta-set-to-run-xros-operating-system\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p data-p-pos=\"11_5\">&#8216;XR&#8217; refers to extended reality, which means the product will likely include both augmented reality \u2014 which refers to an overlay of visual elements or information on the real world \u2014 and virtual reality \u2014 which refers to completely immersive environments.<\/p>\n<p>The mixed-reality operating system will encompass new versions of popular Apple apps like Messages and Maps, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-12-01\/apple-mixed-reality-headset-rivaling-meta-set-to-run-xros-operating-system\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bloomberg reported<\/a>.
