Others are not so sure. Many marketers have even said their goodbyes to Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>As far as brands are concerned, many have left the platform or temporarily paused ads due to increased hate speech, safety concerns, and Musk\u2019s overall lax approach to content moderation, account suspensions, and other issues. <\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a rundown of all the changes that have happened so far. Whether you\u2019re a fan or not, it\u2019s worth keeping up with what\u2019s happening with Twitter 2.0.<\/p>\n<h2>The latest in the Twitstorm:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/twitter-offers-advertisers-generous-incentives-after-many-marketers-left-platform-11669922354?mod=djemalertNEWS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Twitter Offers Advertisers Generous Incentives After Many Marketers Left Platform<\/a> (Wall Street Journal). \u201cUnder the new Twitter plan, advertisers who book at least $500,000 in incremental spending will qualify to have their spending matched with a \u201c100% value add,\u201d up to a $1 million cap.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.socialmediatoday.com\/news\/twitter-says-that-its-moderation-policies-have-not-changed-in-light-of-musk\/637662\/?utm_source=Sailthru&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=Issue:%202022-12-01%20Social%20Media%20Today%20Newsletter%20%5Bissue:46393%5D&amp;utm_term=Social%20Media%20Today\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Twitter Says That its Moderation Policies Have Not Changed in Light of Musk Takeover<\/a> (Social Media Today). It depends on who you ask<\/a> The evolution of suspended accounts, fired executives, and Musk\u2019s terrible jokes.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/twitter-adds-official-badge-then-musk-immediately-kills-it-389506\">Twitter adds Official badge, then Musk immediately kills it<\/a> Exactly what it says.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/twitter-advertising-elon-musk-brands-agencies-389311\">How brands and agencies are reacting to Elon Musk\u2019s radical changes at Twitter<\/a> Many, including GM, General Mills, and Apple have suspended their accounts.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/elon-musk-twitter-takeover-poll-383952\">Elon Musk taking over Twitter, but most marketers not worried<\/a> Did we speak too soon?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"h-what-happened\">What happened:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>In January, Elon Musk started investing in Twitter, securing a 9.2% stake, making him the largest shareholder in the company.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Musk reached an acquisition deal with Twitter in April but raised concerns over spam accounts on the platform, claiming Twitter had not provided him with an accurate estimate of their number. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Also, in April, Twitter announced that Musk would join the company\u2019s board of directors. Shortly after, Musk said he would not be joining the board after all.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>By mid-April, Musk offers to buy Twitter at $54.20 per share, valuing the company at about $43 billion,\u00a0according to a securities filing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Twitter adopts a poison pill provision to prevent the Musk acquisition but then accepts Musk\u2019s offer to acquire the company and values the deal at $44 billion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In May, when Musk said the deal was on \u201ctemporary hold\u201d over bot concerns. Musk posted a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/twitter-estimates-spam-fake-accounts-represent-less-than-5-users-filing-2022-05-02\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reuters report<\/a>\u00a0about a public filing from Twitter earlier in May that said fake accounts made up less than 5% of users on the platform. Musk then says he wants \u201cdetails supporting calculation that spam\/fake accounts represent less than 5% of users.\u201d Two hours later,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1525049369552048129\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Musk says<\/a>\u00a0he\u2019s \u201cstill committed\u201d to the deal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Fast forward to July, Musk moves to terminate his acquisition of Twitter, pointing to the issue of fake accounts. Twitter sues Musk to force him to complete the deal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>By October, after a months-long effort to terminate the deal, Musk proposes to complete the deal at the original offer price of $54.20 a share at a total cost of roughly $44 billion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>At the end of October, Musk closed a deal to acquire Twitter on the final day before the trial would have moved forward.
